The Black Eagles are distant cousins.
Now during the breeding season every day fresh Greenery comes to the nest.
They loves that stuff, stuck their beak there in, put it up close to themself and sometimes even chewing it.
Maybe good for health, digestion. Hygienic on the nest.

edit: 10:26 brought Maco small prey, small mouse or so. Too fast swallowed Metra - I was too slow for a pic! After that Metra called continue...

I'm no expert by any means, but I know that other species bring a variety of plants, mosses and lychens to their nests for different reasons.
One of those reasons is the anti-septic effects some plants/mosses/lychens have, thought to cleanse the nest and get rid of bugs and parasites.
Another reason is that fresh greens cool down the air on the nest when the moisture inside the green evaporates; it sort of creates a micro-climate on the nest, which is handy on hot summerdays.
Ospreys among others, often bring green stuff to their nests prior to the eggs hatching. And they eat bark and other plant material on some occasions because their diet doesn't give all the things their body needs. This bark-eating also sharpens their beaks, a bit like when a cat sharpens it's claws on a piece of wood.
So, I can imagine that the behaviour on this nest can have something to do with one (or more) of the above.

Black Swan and Kukelke, many thanks... Image
I keep thinking why Mētra brings so many of greeneries. And why did not work her instinct of self preservation with so little food from Mačo previously ... at present situation is improving.

Good afternoon :hi:

Thank you all for pictures and comments
Interesting, and logical, explanations for why Metra is "chewing" maple leaves, and great to see that Macho has been in the nest several times again today:))) Seems like he has found (under the circumstances) a fertile hunting ground these last days:)
18:17 - Metra was preening..

6. June

08:41 - Metra is awake, and calling for breakfast, and if I´m to judge by the tone of her voice, I'd arrived straight away if I was Macho
