Jun 24

good morning!

Happy Jāņi!
yesterday was the day of Līgo, the day before Jāņi. this two day feast is celebration of the summer solstice. it is celebrated in the Baltic countries including the Nordic countries Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland. in Christian era this previously a pagan feast was moved a few days after the summer solstice and it was renamed after St John the Baptist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C4%81%C5%86i
it was believed that there was magic in the night between Līgo and Jāņi so that even the fern (Pteridium aquilinum) blooms.

in normal years there has been a party at the race track in this night. this year it was quiet.

Liz wrote in the YT chat: "13:18 bird on the left branch "
thank you Liz! :2thumbsup:
it was a blackbird. he began singing somewhere farther from the nest tree. then he flew somewhere much closer.
13:15 he sang somewhere under the nest louder and louder (= closer and closer to the microphone). then he flew to the top branch and wasn't so loud anymore.

blackbirds are singing around the nest tree all the time but they are not often seen.

22:20 a bumblebee buzzed on the microphone. she made similar rustling on the microphone as we have heard earlier in the nights but without buzzing. i think that the rustles have been some insects.
22:21 again a bumblebee.
22:29 a woodcock flew by and called. then a bumblebee buzzed again.

the eagle dug the nest bottom a little. then he preened. the tail feathers were in disorder in the same way as the eagle's earlier. it was Mr L. the other eagle on the top must be Milda.
