i think there were two flies. in the top panel fly #2 is in a double image in one frame. i think he flew down from right to left. fly # 1 flew up from left to right.

Ame...
You invested so much work in 2 poor flies who came to a foodless nest? :rotf:

As always, I admire you :loveshower:

heheheeee Abigyl.... Image

these flies are not the only ones nor the first that i have happened to see here. they just happened to flash in the corner of my eye while i was doing something else. as i wrote my first thought was that there was a bird. :D

how about this then? :whistling:
9:17 a wasp (? or a bee?) was singing near the microphone and some flies (? or more wasps? bees?) flying above the nest.

there was a big wasp nest in the tree a year or two ago. Janis will have difficulties when he'll come for a maintenance trip if the wasps decide to build their nest right under the nest. :slap:

9:39 a chaffinch was singing rather near (and another at a larger distance?). also a willow warbler was singing nearby.
some people say that they have difficulty in separating the voices of chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) and willow warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus). the chaffinch has faster tempo in his song and he sings in "major key". the willow warbler sings in "minor key" and with slower tempo. his song sounds more melancholy than the chaffinch song.

for comparison the willow warbler:

and the chaffinch:

the chaffinch has regional dialects. the so-called "Baltic chaffinch" has a buzzing voice which they sometimes repeat endlessly. we can hear this call here. i had difficulty to learn who this was, since we don't hear this call in Finland. in in Kurzeme it is very common.
here's a sample with two buzzes. in the end is the tit!-voice which sounds a lot of like the calls which great tits make.

12:32 footsteps.
13:28 footsteps... a lot and loud, sounded like a heavy animal or many animals. or both.

the bushes are so thick now that it's quite impossible to anything. :slap:

I also thought it was a bird because there was a thump sound after that. I thought the bird had brushed its wings against the branches. The flies couldn't make that sound.

At 9:28 there was another little bird on the nest. Perhaps a Lesser Whitethroat (sylvia curruca) ?
