17:42 Raimis called many times. then he rolled the eggs. before he called i heard a mallard's voice.
i don't know if these two calls had anything to do with each other. i see no reason why Raimis should get excited about a mallard flying by.

yes!
i made a video of them and a picture, too. they are in the end of the previous page.
could you make a slow-motion close-up video of them, please?
i saw that you you have corrected the video of the cranes yesterday evening.
the last bird who flew by the nest was a wood pigeon.
i'm still wondering why we see then so often. they also seem to fly back and forth, almost like they don't know where to fly. i was wondering if they have stayed around here all winter since there has been no snow practically all winter. does anyone of the Latvians here know about this?

11:01 there were buzzard's voices from the sky (not from one place in forest like a jay would call). i think even two buzzards were calling there.
11:23 Milda rolled the eggs.
11:25 she reorganized hay.

11:42 Milda got up to preen. then she rolled the eggs.
12:16 a raven called nearby. Milda listened...
12:30 a fairly big bird flew over the nest.
i think it was probably a raven. the wingbeat was too fast for an eagle.

12:48 a squirrel climbed up on the right side and got shooed away. the squirrel was already running down when Milda was only getting up.
... still more rustling and banging from the basement. the squirrel didn't run away at once. it sounds like he is chopping logs there...

and the cranes have been flying back and forth in the past few days. it's been like their compass is wrong every other time and then it's right again.

17:05 Raimis got up and scratched his ear. then he rolled the eggs.
17:11 Raimis got up and stretched his wing. then he lay down again.
btw: the stream cuts for a few seconds every now and then. there are missing pieces, but fortunately not very long.

In evolutionary terms, we are much separated from birds but even so, watching Raimis drowse in the warm sun on a cold day, I think we can know exactly how he feels. Eyes closing slowly, head drooping, half awake, half asleep. Content.
