Osprey Nests in North America
There are several osprey nests on camera in the United States and Canada.
Most of them are on artificial platforms built to encourage nesting and rebuild the populations.
If you follow one (or more!) of these nests, please post here. We already have a separate topic for the Hellgate Nest in Montana (viewtopic.php?f=26&t=580) and if another nest becomes very popular, we can open a topic for it later.

This cam does not have streaming video, but the still image changes every several seconds. I just looked and there are two turkey vultures on the platform just now! The first osprey of the season was seen March 15 (2014).

A nest at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia:
http://www.smlspfriends.com/Ospreywebcam
Last year there were three fledglings, they all fell out of the nest. Two of them could be found and rescued. After the vet gave his ok, they were re-nested. See the links below the camera picture.
At the moment the cute couple of ospreys are back from South America and they are busy in nest-building.
I will visit this place in July, when I visit a puppy of my dog at this beautiful lake.

The snow is gone!
And - I couldn't watch today - what is the sweet osprey doing? Brooding?
edit: No, definitely not. Now both ospreys are sitting on the edge. No egg in the nest.

27. March
16:25 (German time)
Nice to see the difference between the male and the female (colored breastfeathers)
A speedy boat crossing behind the nest

I just found this cam, here in my state of Iowa. I looked - it's after midnight, and there was a Great Horned Owl on the nest and it left after a few moments. I hope it stays gone as this appears to be a nest that is established.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

And miles to go before I sleep,

Female, here, on high alert at 4am-418am so far. I don't know how much longer I will be up but since there was a GHO on the nest a few nights ago, I fear that's what it may be. She was acting like she was going to lay down in the nest bowl but had to stay standing, looking around and around in all directions. Something has her very worried.Chimega wrote:I just found this cam, here in my state of Iowa. Dickinson County, Iowa, osprey on the nest at 3:32am, despite what the camera says. They're same time zone as me. I named her Moonglow because they do not appear to have named these osprey. I named the male, Star, because his pattern on his forehead forms an 8 point star.
