At 00:41:18 the YT stream is interrupted and a period of forty seconds is left out. The next moment the time is 00:41:58 and the camera view is clearly upside down. The cam is then operated to eventually zoom in on the original nest site, the position in which it stayed until 9:27.

And here's the noise report for the period 03:50 to 05:15. A relatively quiet session compared to the last couple of mornings):
03:51:48 a faint whistle
03:53:48 two clear whistles
03:54:11 two even clearer whistles
03:54:21 five progressively fainter whistles
03:54:48 two faint whistles
04:03:54 two whistles
04:04:53 two whistles, followed by some churring (I guess headphones are necessary to detect the churring song)
04:05:57 slightly clearer churring
04:06:29 faint whistling and only very slightly clearer churring are heard (with a degree of overlap)
04:07:14 another faint churr
04:08:43 two clear whistles, then two more at 04:08:54
04:12:44 a faint whistle, then another at 04:13:15
04:41:25 four whistles, then one more at 04:41:41
04:43:45 a series of whistles followed by a couple of more isolated calls
04:47:04 a faint whistle
04:49:25 two clear whistling calls
04:49:48 a short churr, the first of a series which continues (with pauses of up to 10-15 seconds) for almost two minutes and is brought to an end with some wing clapping at 04:51:40, followed by a few whistling calls
04:52:06 another whistle and a faint churr
04:52:18 a series of three slightly clearer churrs
04:52:55 a couple of whistles and croak-/clucklike calls
04:55:00 churring in the distance
04:55:17 more of the same
04:55:37 and still more churring (barely detectable)
04:56:48 three loud whistling calls
04:57:11 a short churr followed by a series of similar calls till 04:57:55
04:59:00 a churr
04:59:11 a whistle

And then:
05:05:45 a bird (what else?) is heard landing (flying past?) close to the microphone; a few fairly faint dry and churr-like sounds follow in the next minute - no idea if there's any link between the two observations
05:12:50 another sound of a bird flying past the microphone (this is preceded by a couple of dry knocks)
05:17:23 here's the spotted nutcracker (SN)
05:18:10 it's the SN again, right into the microphone - goes off like a proper buzzer, even the echo is heard very clearly after the call is over
05:19:00 and again, this time - thankfully - a little further from the mic
05:19:44 and one more time, still further away

Could that be a Mistle Thrush?
Lots of maracas sounds today around lunch time, guess it's a Mistle Thrush family :whistling:

Just a couple of notes (03:45:30-03:52:00):
03:45:55 whistling and then more whistling
03:46:32 churring, then more at 03:46:56 and at 03:47:14
03:47:34 churring, then also whistling - thus till 03:48:13
03:48:23 first whistling, then also churring, then only whistling again
03:49:49 a bird can be heard flying past the cam mic
03:49:55 a bird can be heard flying close to the mic and a fraction of a second later it can be just about seen flying from left to right in the very bottom of the camera view; two seconds later a bird is heard flying past the cam mic again
03:50:32 churring

03:51:40 a few whistling calls

Then (03:55-05:00):
03:55:44 churring and whistling
03:56:42 churring, continues until 03:57:49 (some wing clapping), then at 03:58:00 a little more churring
03:58:35 a whistle and the coda of a churring song
03:59:13 a whistle and churring
03:59:33 a bird is heard flying close to the microphone again (sounds like a helicopter)
03:59:46 another sound of what could be a bird flying past
04:14:13 three whistles
04:32:27 five clear whistles
04:33:40 two clear whistles
04:33:59 the first churr of a new series
04:35:47 two clear whistles, then three more (less clear)
04:37:25 churring and a few whistles
04:38:00 more whistling
04:38:46 churring (accompanied by whistling)
04:39:28 two whistles in very quick succession and churring; the next 30" sees (hears) plenty of whistling and a bit of churring (three birds?); this continues with minor pauses for a couple of minutes until around 04:43:00 (wing clapping at 04:42:25 is followed by a series of very clear though gradually receding whistling calls from at least two sources and a couple of wing claps)
whistling resumes around 04:43:10 and at 04:43:20 there's a sound of something like a bird shaking water off its back
04:44:25 churring plus whistling
04:45:05 wing clapping
04:45:26 another whistle, which then slowly transforms into a series of whistling calls that goes on, with pauses of varying length, until the whistling is joined by churring and then more whistling at 04:48:10, more churring around and past 04:49:00, then also a bit of whistling, but churring prevails and goes on till around 04:50:30
churring resumes at 04:51:12 but lasts only a dozen or so seconds

From 04:52:20 (for about a minute) there's a lot of nervous clicking in the air (sorry, no idea which species this is)
At 04:57-04:58 there's a fair bit of the maracas sound

11 August

At 04:42:00 this morning, the starting point for my listening session, the view is still almost completely dark; the morning is very noisy compared to the past few days - it sounds both windy (stormy, I'd say) and wet; the overall impression is one of being either close to a violent sea or next to a very busy carriageway
04:46:23 three very clear whistling calls just before the noise intensifies, drowning out further calls if any were made
04:48:18 and 04:49:55 (a suspicion of) a churr (?)
04:50:08 a churr, definitely, followed by more churring at 04:50:18 and 04:50:35
04:52:02 two clear whistling calls
By 05:18:00 day has arrived, while wind and overall noise have only slightly relented, if at all. No further calls from any nightjars (or birds of any other species) can be reported for the 36-minute period.

I have now uploaded a video of what appears to have been a nightjar sighting made at 03:49:55 on 10 August :puzzled: . In case you'd like to take a more informed look, the clip is available three posts above this.

Tonight:
- possibly a whistling call at 22:02,
- definitely some churring and whistling calls between 22:04:40 and 22:05:00,
- two series of whistling calls between 22:06:20 and 22:06:35, then churring from 22:06:55 (three shortish calls),
- a few more attempted churrs around and past 22:07:50,
- a couple of whistling calls can be heard with difficulty at 22:10:55,
- a good deal of whistling between 22:12:35 and 22:13:00, then some churring, whistling, and churring again (22:13:40).

It's still pretty stormy out there... :whistling:
Good night! :offtobed:

12 August

[04:40:00 still almost completely dark, one or two tree silhouettes are beginning to emerge]
04:41:52 two muffled whistles (the source is probably at some distance from the microphone, the calls are largely drowned by the general noise)
04:44:08 a single whistling call
04:51:49 a pair of whistling calls, then another pair
04:57:19 three whistling calls (including two very clear ones), followed by some half-hearted churring
04:58:36, then also 04:58:59 a churring call comes to an end before it has properly started
05:00:17 two whistling calls, then another one, then an attempted churr
05:01:46 whistling (barely audible)
05:02:02 more whistling (barely audible)
05:03:16 a quick series of unidentified noises (no nightjars involved)
[05:28:00 day has arrived]

A couple of notes from the evening session:

22:07:54 a few whistling calls
22:09:10 four whistling calls, possibly from two birds
22:09:37 a bit of churring, more churring calls at 22:09:48, 22:09:59 and 22:10:08
22:11:47 another whistling call
No more calls are heard until at least 22:30.

Gloom sets in :offtobed:

13 August

[04:40:00 completely dark]
[04:50:00 still almost completely dark, seems a really dull morn]
04:57:50, 04:57:58, 04:58:19 churring calls start to break through the wall of background noise just as daylight begins to be perceptible
05:00:24 this might have been a whistling call
05:01:50 a series of muffled whistling calls
05:02:15-05:02:28 a total of five very clear whistling calls
05:02:29 a series of progressively more distant calls
05:03:09 two more whistling calls
05:03:24 a couple of faint whistling calls
05:03:36-05:05:24 several faint churrs (plus an occasional whistle)
05:05:44 a whistling call
05:06:02 three clear whistling calls, they are soon (05:06:13) followed by an irregular series of whistling calls made further afield
05:06:31 an exchange of whistling pleasantries between a couple of birds, one of the interlocutors gives a churr at 05:06:41 before switching back to whistling; this continues not too far from the microphone until around 05:07:05
05:07:10 another pair of whistling calls is followed by a churr at 05:07:17
05:07:35 another exchange of whistling calls
05:07:57 a single whistling call, followed by a series of like calls from 05:08:08 till 05:08:17
05:08:14, 05:08:24, 05:08:28, 05:08:33 wing clapping
05:08:43 a new series of whistling calls until 05:08:57
05:09:15 a whistle and a bit of wing clapping, more whistling calls follow until 05:09:45
05:10:01 another series of whistling calls; the calling continues, with pauses, until 05:10:58
05:11:07 more whistling calls; the calling intensifies and develops into another exchange from 05:11:16 till 05:11:40; whistling calls continue to be heard after that, too, with churring calls joining in several times from 05:12:05; at 05:12:20 there are in all likelihood two birds whistling and another one churring; this concert goes on (its intensity dipping at times) until 05:14:10 - towards the end, only churring is heard; another brief churr is sounded at 05:14:28
05:14:54 two more whistling calls, folowed by three more at 05:15:01 and another call at 05:15:10

[05:23:00 are we done for the night? Meanwhile, day has arrived.]
[05:33:00 yes, we are]

All's well that ends well. I'll still check on the live stream from time to time as long as it remains available, but I don't expect to post any more reports. Good bye

Gosh, following these little devils is so addictive...
They start whistling tonight at 21:52:59 and are heard very well at 21:53-21:54, and then there's some whistling again at 21:57-21:58.

Seriously though, it is time to say good night and good bye.
Good bye, Fleur! Thank you for all your notes, comments and videos
Let's hope all this work does not go to waste.

The camera will be removed tomorrow. Good luck to "our" nightjars during their migration!

Thank you Marbzy, Fleur and others! Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
