It was my pleasure, Anne. I thought I might be needed that day. ;-)

It is worrisome to follow the migration of our juvenile Black Storks.
There is often a (possible) reason to worry.
....
We know that only a few storklets survive their first year. And it is so sad to "witness" another loss...
Yes, Anne, it is worrying a lot, often. And it’s terrible to witness a loss, although we "see" it only on maps. But we know, dying happens not on maps; it is very real. I always have a hard time getting over it. Some storks I never forget.
But this is not the place to share the sadness of long lost Black Storks.

Thank you very much for the article. This is very interesting!
Tamás Enikő Anna, the Hungarian Black Stork expert, mentioned the Mediterranean migration route.

"... The Mediterranean migration route is represented only with around 0,2% of the Black Storks in the autumn passage, according to observations and recoveries mostly 1st year and immature birds, a significant number of which is not proven to survive (or proven not to survive). ...."
It was actually clear to me that mostly inexperienced young storks would try to cross the Mediterranean. They do not know how dangerous is the open sea, they don't know that this attempt almost always fails.
I hope, Aru and Oru will find their way to Istanbul. Then a big hurdle is taken. One of many still to come.
Thank you all for todays updates, reports and pictures!
