Californian barn owls Teco&Valentina

This year they laid seven eggs, the first owlet hatched yesterday, the next one may follow it today. Teco did not bring any food lately and people fed Valentina.

Note for our cam watchers
Since we installed the cams, we have not seen the male eagle -- only the female. During the eagles' absence at the nest, a pair of Great Horned Owls have begun hanging out at the nest. We have a no-intervention policy, so if the eagles do not defend the nest, the owls may use it for their nesting season in January/February.

Female Great horned Owl was in and out of the nest this morning, she spends time on the nest.
Maybe she is checking the place for some long-time plans

According to the voices, some feathered neighbour is not amused about appearance of a Great horned Owl

GHO ( and other owls)do not build their nests, they only occupy those built by other birds. We've already seen it in Savannah, Georgia (formerly a Bald Eagle's nest) and in Presidio, San Francisco (Red-tailed Hawk). We will see how the situation develops here.

Meanwhile, GHOs at Shadow Ridge High School already have two eggs.

here's something else. i don't know how many of you perhaps use Potplayer for making videos but this concerns this player:

RAMONA, CALIFORNIA'S BARN OWL

February 10th

Princess has now laid seven eggs. :D

Mr. Hoppy is bringing her a present (bunny). Mating while he is still giving it to Princess. Hoppy's not wasting any time. He enjoys the time until the first chicks hatch and there is no more time for the beautiful things. :whistling:

February 16th

Despite the snow she looks very relaxed.

Unfortunately the camera has no time stamp. I hope this is not a problem here now? :puzzled:

RAMONA, CALIFORNIA'S BARN OWL

February 16th

This is the second time in a row that Mr. Hoppy has stayed away from the nesting cave. Possibly he spends the days nearby well hidden.
However, he feeds his hungry princess at night and disappears again after mating. 8-)

Here are the dates for the laid eggs:

January 26, 2020 - First Egg Laid
January 28, 2020 - Second Egg Laid
January 30, 2020 - Third Egg Laid
February 2, 2020 - Fourth Egg Laid
February 4, 2020 - Fifth Egg Laid
February 6, 2020 - Sixth Egg Laid
February 8, 2020 - Seventh Egg Laid

We are slowly approaching the first slippage.
