Thankyou Mamicja for the videos. It has really been a harmonious year this season, excluded the third egg's loss everything has seemed to run perfectly with this family.

This afternoon I had the cam on at work and I saw a short episode when E15 started to provoke E14 with her/his beak - and E14 hit immediately back with the result that E15 went also immediately submissively down. Nothing severe happened, but I have not seen often eaglets in this age to provoke each other. And the episode was not many seconds long, the younger one also lifted her/himself up again in some seconds. It was just funny

The youngest eagle - E 15 - is now getting bigger (maybe a female?) than E 14. And will maybe at some point turn the competition in its favor?. We have seen pecking order fight going on all the way. I think it is common and natural among birds and eagles - also later in theis lifes. It is no problem as long as there is food nough availible. We - as humans - do not like to see this, but we have to accept that nature operates this way.

License plates for the kids
Posted by Ole Friis Larsen on May 25, 2020 at 1 p.m. 17:37
The two kids on the nest this afternoon have been ring marked with color rings, so now it becomes easy to distinguish them when they eventually get one's dark young bird suits.
The youngest of the eagles turned out - as some had also guessed - to be a female. It weighed 4.6 kilos and was clearly larger than the oldest eagle, so she has not been cheated at feeding, although many have thought it looked like it. She was in good health almost without the so-called hunger streaks that the feathers get if the eagle kid has been lacking food in growing up. She also had no lice, so there is good hygiene in the nest.
The young woman has a black 'license plate' on the left leg with the code H115. On the right leg she has a ring which is orange at the top and glossy at the bottom. It is the country color for Danish Sea Eagles. Every country has its color. The code on that ring is D084, where D is also a code for the country where it is ringed. It can be read like Denmark, but it is actually a coincidence.
The oldest of the kids turned out to be a big brother. He weighed 4.1 kilos and the difference in weight is perfectly normal for a female and a male at that age respectively. He too turned out to have very few signs of hunger, and there was zero lice.
Like the sister, the male has a black ring on the left leg and an orange over the gloss on the right leg. It is international standard that the black ring is on the left leg and the colored one on the right leg. The male codes are H116 on the black ring and D085 on the colored ring.
The two eagles are lucky to have good parents, although the two adult / adult eagles are probably beginners as breeding birds. While we were ringing, the male flew around and scolded close to the nest. We also saw the female several times closely - ie two parents who were genuinely concerned about their young. So intensely do the parent birds not tend to be present.
The ring marking takes place after approval from the state in the form of the University of Copenhagen.
While we were there, Kim Skelmose, who is both the head of Project Eagle and one of the two authorized ring markers who must ring mark the nest eagles of Sea Eagles, of course also brushed the lens on the camera, so now we hope it all works well the rest of the time with kids on the nest this year

Ole Friis Larsen did write something wrong at the ringing yesterday. Here is Ole´s own correction: The youngest eaglet is a female who weighed 4.6 kilos. She has a black ring on the left leg with the code D084 and a two-color ring with orange over gloss on the right leg. The color code is H115.
The oldest boy is a male who weighed 4.1 kilos. He has a black ring with the code D085 on the left leg and a two-color ring on the right leg with the code H116.
