Re: Goshawk nest in Riga 2020
09:30 ... assassination attempt on the camera.
09:31 Boka lands in the nest with a birch branch.
She jumps back on her branch.
09:33 Boka flies into a nearby tree.
1 minute later she is back with a new branch.

Not much has happened so far. We have had two happy and sleepy chicks since feeding.
Yes, Boka leaves the nest alone much more often and longer. Not all alone ... often she just sits on the upper branch or in the distant group of trees.
Step by step ...
Until tomorrow!
The duty calls.

Mother brings two meals in the space of just over twenty minutes: at 16:16 and 16:37. The first time the chicks are really fast out of the blocks. The second time, they take a bit longer to react, possibly because the second meal is wrapped up in birch leaves. Full crops all around!

Thanks for the time stamp! I did not miss it to take a quick look.
Yes, the chicks literally overrun their mother.
It is understandable that the more delicate male hawks can hardly cope with this rush at some point.
Not yet, but in a while the down balls will have a lot more power.

One last picture from yesterday, which I noticed first when winding.
It happens very quickly that the feather dress develops. Almost every hour. Exaggerated but it seems to me. On Thursday the older chick is 3 weeks old.
Unfortunately no sighting of Lui today. It is normal for him to withdraw, but I suspected that he would at least be around. I have to pay more attention to the activities in the tree group. Or on lute ... maybe I notice him.
The first flights of discovery are made with both parents. So Lui can't be completely gone.

Good morning ,
A big thank you to all of you for the reports , pictures and videos, I only have the ability to watch on live stream so obviously miss certain things.

03:49 Boka is already cleaning her feather dress.
04:30 She gets up and runs around her chicks, who have so far enjoyed the warmth of the nest under mom's breast. The little ones are difficult to get excited about at dawn.
04:32 No mercy. Boka pushes between the chicks and begins to loosen the nest floor.
04:34 she jumps on her observation branch.
...and away.
*tired :)
04:40 Boka back

06:00 Little one starts begging his mother. Very shy at first.
06:02 Boka rises and jumps on her branch.
While she is cleaning herself in the mirth sun, her offspring go to the toilet.
06:02:56 Little one
06:03:59 button eye
06:11 Boka leaves the branch.
She is flying very deep down. It's hard to say whether she flies in the trees or goes hunting.

07:23 Boka comes back with food. (A bird ... indefinable for me)
That was lightning feeding. I had the impression that the chicks not only ate quickly but also fed Boka hastily.
Tug of war again..
07:25 Boka jumps on her branch again. The chicks are unsatisfied, chirping in protest. This time, the older chick too.
All three look in the same direction.
The eyes of the chicks will soon be the same. :)

07: 55: 51 A bird emerges from the thick green of the tree. I think it's Boka. It is your favorite tree. She often flies to him and sits there.
08:31 distant calls of a hawk can be heard. Since Boka (I think) is sitting in the tree, I would sort the calls to Lui.
( Correction: 08: 30: 45/55 no hawk? I'm not sure. It's hard to hear.)
She is there until 8:51:28. Then it flies back to the same place it came from.

09:27 until after 09:50 it was very restless. Maybe Boka or Lui were the triggers themselves?
Crows flew over and around the nest. Their excited calls can be heard and their shadows can be seen.
The spectacle dragged on ... further away, then directly around the nest.
Both chicks look up. Button eye starts to beep and not as relaxed as his sibling.
For the first time I was very uncomfortable watching.

10:48 ... almost in the middle of the excitement Boka comes to the nest.
I was happy to see her. She brings a fresh bird with her. I wondered if she used a crow's nest ....
The children are rampant and greedy. They immediately jump on the food and snatch it from their mother.
I will insert a video later. It is difficult to describe this feeding.
The feeding:
(Hear the other hawk's call too.)
This time for sure: 10:48:24 A hawk warns. Lui ...
Boka reacts tense to the calls.

Boka a little nervous.
10:52
Feeding is finished at 10:52 and Boka retires to the branch.
The stream jerky.
10:53 Boka is gone. The kids are alone so far. And well filled ... for now.

Eaglets alone
Lots of crow calls some quite close by
One eaglet keeps calling , needs to be still and quiet !

Yes, these crows are apparently very present today.
The afternoon is coming and going ...
13:58 Boka lands, looks briefly at her chicks and jumps on the branch.
13:59 it starts again. Briefly, energetic crowing can be heard immediately.
16:30 crash landing on the nest edge. The same thing again ... a quick check and jump on the branch. Boka doesn't stay there, jumps back into the nest. She digs deep in the bowl, sorts some branches and jumps back onto the branch at 16:32. A flywheel protrudes far.
The wind has gotten stronger. Not good picture quality anymore.
17:34 Boka flies out.
She is back 17:43:34. Boka (?) Lands in the part of the camera that is pixelated. With a sound ... I first thought of a crow.
Until 17:44 she sits on the branch.
17:57 landing in 2 stages. (Boka?)
This time from the bottom up. First landing just below the nest, then on the nesting edge. Check check and back on the branch until 17:59.
Twice I was unsure if it was Boka.

18:13 ... power struggle in the sky ...
Boka lands on the branch and is 18:14 already gone.
Short video of the situation:
From 18:13:20 you can see 3 birds in the sky. Boka comes to the tree first, a bird turns and one flies directly over it. You can hear a crow, but is it also one?

18:56 Boka opens the bowl like a possessed woman.
What is she doing?
19:05 stunned chicks remain.

Well, I rewound at 16:30. When Boka dug deep. At least one egg was still visible at this point.
Before:
After that:
I wondered if the eggs were the reason for all of this.
Now they are definitely not there anymore. At least not visible. But Boka unearthed something else. Something bigger, softer ... a chick was gnawing on it earlier. It is on the nesting edge.
