Thanks for the reports and pictures!

Karl II yawns

He takes care of the nest

He scratches his head, covers the eggs and continues to incubate

I hope Kaia will come home today or this will make a very long brooding time for Karl II

18:48 Karl II is still waiting.

21:05 it's unlikely that Kaia will come tonight :puzzled:
In forty minutes Karl II has been brooding for 24 hours.

If Kaia doesn't come home tonight, hopefully she'll be there early tomorrow morning.

21:26 It is now getting too late for Karl II to go fishing, I think. He must be thirsty too.

21:38 This is the second night that Karl II will be on duty, without a replacement.
Kaia left the nest yesterday evening at 21:46

Is there any obvious reasons for these long absences?

Hello L-H :hi:
I have no reason why Kaia doesn't come to the nest for so many hours, except that she is certainly too young and has no experience.

I wonder what she will do when the eggs hatch. If she keeps staying absent so long, they will be undersupplied at least on their first day.

We should be prepared for everything.
There is no other explanation for long absence that there is lack of food nearby and Kaia(also Karl II) has to look for it from long distances. Does anybody remember when was the rain last time? Nothing is going in the near future too:

Is it possible to take the eggs away and place them in incubator?

Good morning

I have written in my notes that it rained on 17 May and on 21 May.

There have been two fires in the bogs lately which speaks for itself too.

I don´t think so. It certainly sounds cruelly but maybe better if the eggs didn´t hatch at all.
I wish and will be happy to be wrong and sorry to be so strict but situation doesn´t look good.

According to the Estonian Weather Service, Rain should not be that far off the average for January to April.

Hello Summi :hi:

36 hours! It is really long. Thanks for the hint.

I think it could be food shortage why Kaia is gone for so long.
However, Karl II always came back to the nest well filled.
I see, so it is not just food that is a reason.
I really think that Kaia is only too young and that she has no experience whatsoever. Instinct also has to get an intensity that corresponds to the situation.
