Still a troubled boka ...
The chicks start to beak again.
Look at the eyes from the button eye ... as well as it can be seen. Wow ....
I have read that young eagle owls caress each other with their beaks and greet each other. Like our hawks, they are very connected here.
It appears that young hawks do the same.

Boka meanwhile left the nest and is sitting on her branch.
Button eye is a bit baffled in front of the food while Little one does not seem to be hungry yet.
Very good big one!
Boka and her rascals.

How her eyes have changed ...
Boka fed two more times this evening. While Button Eye likes to be operated again, Little one took it himself.
Today the flies were apparently a bit annoying. It was funny to watch Boka try to pick them up.

6th of June
Good Morning
Yes, the feet too.
Overall, the younger Little one seems to be stronger (in terms of body type). I've been watching it for a few days. That, and the feeding behavior made me speculate about gender a few days ago.
Of course you cannot compare all birds directly, but often the girls are greedy and demanding. Well, I guess we have a girl with Little One. But that's really just speculation.
The Beringer or observing ornithologists could surely determine this accurately.

While Boka has now moved away from the branch (she was sitting in the nest all night again ), the juniors are slowly coming into the blocks.

07:25 When Boka approaches the nest with the first feed of the day, another bird crosses the picture coming from the same direction. It flies from left to right slightly below the nest height. Lui?
Another pigeon.
Here I had a strange deja vu ... Last summer I found a dead pigeon under our oak tree at home. I was angry because I suspected the pigeon-haters were shooting. They really do it ... However, this pigeon has exactly the same injury in the same place. This hole. Could it be from the claws? So now I think that a hawk hit this pigeon and released it from it for a reason.
While Little one is already very interested, the button eye first takes care of his feather dress. Naturally.

Five minutes later ....
Another twelve minutes later ... so vain (or lazy?).
Then finally button eyes are used.
07:54 both chicks are fed by Boka.

09:56 Boka lands on the camera, then in the nest.
Do you watch your mother pluck branches?
On the camera.
Critical look ... We all know what's coming.
The chicks should take cover now.

Little one has fled to the other side. However, Boka's energy with the rump is underestimated.
Is your head peeping through below?
Finally over - all chicks are still in the nest. Not a nice way to teach the children to fly.

11:22 Little one gnaws on the food. Boka feeds her chicks ten minutes later.
Ups...that was close.
Button eye flutters across the nest.

I looked in the Latvian forums to see if there was any confirmation from the ringer about the sexes, but he left it up to the viewers to guess.
The ringer's comment can be found here: https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.p ... 17#p254317
This is my best translation attempt:

Some notes on the ringing on June 4th:
With the reaction of the parent, especially the female's aggressiveness in defending the nest, I was lucky, because, firstly, the crows distracted her, and secondly, the young were not too big yet. When they are closer to fledging, the female is usually even more aggressive and tends to leave scratches with her nails.
Climbing the tree, I noticed that next to the black alder, at a distance of about 5 meters, there is a blackbird nest with unfeathered young. It is mentioned in the literature that the blackbird is a frequent food item for the goshawk, in terms of "popularity" on the 4th-6th place, usually after the pigeon, crow, jay and woodpecker. Probably it is common that a goshawk does not hunt near the nest, and the neighbors know that there has also been a finch nest next to this tree.
The young birds in the nest are of different sexes - this can be said by the size and proportions of the leg. Sometimes it even happens that the female has to put on a bigger ring.

Your translation is great! Thanks a lot for this.
Now I would be interested in what happened to the crow's nest. When Boka laid her first egg, a pair of crows built fifty yards away.
I think we will know very well soon.
Today I imagined if we could differentiate them anytime soon. The plumage develops so quickly ... so beautiful !!!! The tail feathers of button eyes already hit the ground. Soon they will be wearing their teenage dress.

... or are they young, inexperienced birds? I wish the songbirds the best of luck.Probably it is common that a goshawk does not hunt near the nest, and the neighbors know that there has also been a finch nest next to this tree.

The weather in Riga today is like this. April in summer.
The chicks obviously enjoy the wind. They are sometimes very lively and flutter and jump around in the nest. Boka apparently prefers to stay a little closer to the chicks.
(Unfortunately, no nice photos, but hopefully enough for the presentation.)

On todays pictures it can be even clearly seen that the younger one is bigger! Its body is bigger. For sure. It is not an optical illusion (lighter color - seemingly bigger ). No. It is a fact.
I am sure the ringer knew who is who due this visible difference. Sexual dimorphism.

Yes, the kids had fun.
Everyone is drenched.
15:02 Boka feeds her chicks. It is still the remnant of the pigeon.
18:00 Button eye and Little one put their heads under the wings. No wonder after this day ... .
