after the bird disappeared from our view (possibly flew closer to the nest tree) Mr L began to look in the sky above.

yes, from 11.25.04 - 11.25.20 Mr L was definitely tracking someone flying very close by over the nest tree
i saw that and took pictures, but i haven't noticed the eagle earlier (11.24.40) far over the forest on the upper right.
Thanks, Ajeta :2thumbsup:

Image

EDIT:
16.26.59 he stands up again
16.27.20 he shows a big crop, so he must have eaten well
16.28 - 29 he is preening in strong winds, looking around, often to the left and the far left

16.28.39

16.30.50 Mr L lays down again

16:53 Mr L got up to preen. getting up seemed to be a little difficult.
16:57 he lay down again.

17:01 he got up and
17:02 he pooped.
Image

then Mr L was preening...
17:15 he lay down. he seems to have some difficulty taking steps. :slap:

his big crop shows that he has no difficulty in getting food though.

18:14 he made neck movements which could have been yawning (or the so-called "crop-drop")
18:26 more pronounced neck movements.

(i have to go. today i have cooked myself.  )

18.00 he is looking at something on the lower left
18.01 he preens again
18.04 looks again down to the lower left

18.12 Mr L still stands at the same place on left nest edge, looking to the far left and left
18.14.14 he does a crop drop
18.16 Mr L still on the same spot, looking to the far left - as if waiting (for Milda ?)

no sign of Milda today ? :puzzled:

18.22.30 Mr L does the "neck movements" which indicates moving food down from crop to stomach
18.26.16 for a moment he looks right at the cam

(i can't help, today it seems to me Mr L doesn't feel well - speculation on my side, of course, it's my impression)

18.26 Mr L stretching his right wing and leg
18.27 he is 'preening' his left leg (maybe on the wounded ankle ?), then again the neck movements
18.32 he is still standing on the same spot, looking around, but does not move from there

I just came in and open the comp. It is not a usual place to stand on :puzzled:

I think no previous eagle stood there, only eaglets

18.33.48 Mr L nibbling on his right foot
18.34 preening tail feathers
18.36 looking up to the sky
18.37 looking around with stretched neck

18.42 i wonder if the red spots on the right foot are new wounds ? :puzzled:
as far as i remember there was initially only the wounds on the left foot/ankle....
but the right foot looked unharmed

18.44 another crop drop

18.44.27 Mr L pulls his right leg up to rest it, it's the 2nd time today when i see this....
18.47.14 he is about to lay down on the nest, he is limping, he obviously can't put weight on his right foot
18.47.19 he lays down on the nest bowl, facing the forest

18.47.25 this does not look like he is feeling good

18.48.02 a wood pigeon flies behind the nest tree from right to left

18.56.41 Mr L gets up, again neck movements

18.57.16 he lays down again
19.01.35 he gets up again
19.01.54 he scratches his head with the right foot

(to me those wounds on the right foot are looking fresh, please :help: )

19.02 Mr L is preening on his back
19.03 now he preens his "trousers" on the right leg (until 19.04.45)
19.05 (almost) he lays down again, very close to the left nest edge, looking to the right

19.10.18 Mr L gets up again, digs in the nest bowl
19.11.08 eagle arrives from the left to the top branch, silently - is it Milda ?
Image

19.11.16 Mr L continues moving material out of the nest bowl - none of the eagles is talking or calling

19.11.23 the eagle (i think it is Milda) jumps down from top branch to left branch, then down to the nest
19.11.30 yes, it is Milda - she immediately helps moving nestmaterial

19.11.59 Milda is pecking after Mr L's beak, twice - na na na, Milda !
i think she must show who rules the nest
Image

19.12.23 Mr L goes to the right nest edge
19.12.39 Mr L back to the bowl and to Milda, starts working again, and Milda starts beaking again

19.12.44 it doesn't look like tender kisses, Milda bites after him 3x,
but this time Mr L didn't go back to the nest edge

yes, it seemed that this time his right foot was not quite ok. :puzzled:
he was stumbling and limping.

18:44 this could have been a really big yawn, too. unfortunately we can't see his face if he is sleepy.

18:47 when Mr L lay down he kicked the nest bowl when he lay down. this is something that eagles do when they are preparing the nest for eggs.
what they usually do not do is to remain lying on their beak like that. that was odd. but maybe he was just tired, sleepy.

18:56 he got up and twisted his neck around. then he lay down.
19:01 he got up to preen again.

Milda treats her lovers in a rough way. :slap:
Mr L seems to have learned quickly that a humble attitude is best.

... and i'm not sure what the "crop drop" is about. do they really need to do some movements to transfer food from the crop to the stomach. i would think that this should take place kind of automatically and gradually. :puzzled:
we had cows and sheep at my home farm. they didn't have to do anything to perform a reverse operation. a lump of food just came up from their stomach for rumination. :puzzled:

no, usually there is no need to do these movements. I saw it several times with bald eagles and peregrine falcons, when they swallowed unwieldy pieces like big bone parts or long feathers, things like that. I think that these are also not easy to move later forward towards the stomach. That's exactly one reason why i think Mr L doesn't feel well today, because it is not usual. Usually food "slips" down easily only with one "haps" and without those movements with the neck.
