MLADÉ BUKY - one of my favorite nests not far from my home

Good morning

It is a very sad event
The Bukáček stork and his offspring are known all over the world.
After the death of a female stork (the youngest cub was only a week old), the stork took care of its three offspring with the help of humans.
We were all happy that the experiment was successful. The young storks began to fly independently.
Boniface was the youngest.
It hatched on 16 May 2021. It flew out of the nest for the first time on 19 July 10:26.
I visited them several times, they were amazing.
The last time I saw them and took a picture was on July, 23.

Bonifác flew for the last time on July 29. At 14:06 it flew out of the nest and sat on a power pole. After two minutes, it could be seen suddenly falling.
This particular pole has basic conductor safety - it has plastic protection. Examination of the dead stork revealed no signs of electric shock - burns.
It is possible that it was stunned and killed by an uncontrolled fall.
https://puu.sh/I036Q/fbdbf114f4.jpeg

It was a different pillar than the one on which its mother had died).

The operator of the ČEZ energy network will secure all the poles in the village of Mlafé Buky by the end of August. It was set a month ago - but people in the village must be informed 60 days in advance about the power outage (regulaciones).
ČEZ devotes considerable funds to securing power poles. An amendment to the Energy Act (Act No. 458/2009 Coll.) has been in force since 2009, imposing the obligation to secure all high-voltage power lines against bird injuries until 2024 in the whole Czech Republic.

Hana, thank you very much for all the information. Pls where is the original information about Boniface examination? (Will there be an autopsy?)

I am very sorry for this young stork

edit:
correction - the right term is necropsy, autopsy is term reserved for use only in humans (https://www.thebirdclinic.com/necropsy.html)

:hi: Solo,
this info is from the FB group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2878416 ... 5067929051

I don't know, if it will be an autopsy. It would be good to do it.

This is CEZ's statement a few minutes ago:
"This place is equipped with protection of birds against electric shock exactly as it is approved by the Agency for Nature and Landscape Protection died when the pillar has bird protection. The mother's death occurred at the end of May at a foreign facility (not in our possession).
However, in this locality, the planting of bird protection was further planned in 2022, but we will implement it already in August this year. We currently have 70 percent of the management secured."

Good afternoon

After the sad news, one great news.

CZ Trutnov - the chimney of the brewery - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkZe1IfIpg8
today at 10:06 Lotrando, who is 59 days old, flew out of the nest for the first time. I was there. It was a great enjoyment.

The female stork has been taking care of the two storklets on its own for three weeks. The male stork did not return to its nest on July 9. We don't know where he is. I spent three days searching for him under power lines, in the meadows and fields where he went hunting. I didn't find a trace.
It was a young stork, nesting for the first time this year. Maybe he really left the nest and flew away ....
The female managed the care of the offspring perfectly and today she received a reward in the form of the first flight of an older offspring.

Thank you all for being there.

Solo, thank you! :innocent:

I have my "nest" but of course I see all around. Without documenting.
I accompanied this nest as well.

It's a tragedy.

Much has to be done to protect our animals.

No!
The same test is used in veterinary medicine.
1./ Mortuary examination.
2./ Autopsy.
If it is not possible to carry out the examination of the body at the place of death or in full, the examination of the body must be carried out at the place of autopsy ...
3./ ...

I wrote only about terms (nothing about "test used ...")
I know you worked as a VET - perhaps the terminology used may differ in some countries

-------
for newbies:
Let us look at the words themselves. “Necro” refers to “dead” and “psy” to study, so necropsy is the “study of the
dead.” “Auto” refers to “self” so autopsy is “self study.” So an autopsy is technically a necropsy, but because a “human is performing it on a human” it is an autopsy.

source: https://nilesanimalhospital.com/files/2 ... opsies.pdf

Autopsy is the term for examining dead people. Necropsy refers to such probes in other animals.
autopsy Examination of body tissues after a person dies, typically performed to determine the cause of death.
necropsy An examination of an animal’s body to establish how it died.

I seem to be working as a proofreader here

Asteria, you have been watching these nests for years, but you are giving their names repeatedly incorrectly

the streamed nest in Poland: Sokółka (Gniazdo Bocianie - Telewizja Sokółka https://youtu.be/hD9rPMxxYMY)
you can write it simply Sokolka (not Sokulka)

Image

the streamed nest in Czechia: Libštát (Čápi Libštát - https://youtu.be/dElw2i2tCXw)
you can write it simply Libstat (not Libstad)

It spells as Sokółka in Polish but sounds as "Sokulka". Libštát I've corrected.
