Karl II had better wind than Eedi, Nurme and Timmu. This week they all had to fly with North-Eastern wind and only today the wind blows from the South.

I have read that on Karl II’s topic too.
It was announced on the YouTube chat, apparently.
I’m not on the chat.

But there hasn’t been a new birdmap update so far. (20:30 Estonian time)
The last shown data on birdmap are still: yesterday 14.10 in the morning, location: north of Vilnius in Lithuania

So how can someone on the YouTube chat (who was it?) know that Eedi came finally home today?
And more specifically, how can someone know where exactly Eedi flew at a certain time?
And also know the location of Karl II’s nest?
Only Urmas - and probably also a few other Kotkaklubi members - have access to Eedi’s transmitter data, as far as I know.

Eedi’s exact locations within Karula National Park will not be shown publicly.

He may have reached his nest yesterday or maybe even the day before yesterday.

In fact, I don’t know when. I forgot to take a look at it.

For the moment 6 adult Estonian Black Storks are listed on birdmap.
That list will later probably be completed with some juveniles. (Waba, Bonus, ...)
Udu is currently in northern Italy, but not yet included in the birdmap.

We will need some assistance to make the birdmap updates for so many BS !
Is there anyone willing to help? That would be really great!



Did Timmu and Nurme fly (quite a distance) together? From the border with Latvia to southern Belarus, their routes precisely match.

Eedi

Birdmap information:
Most probably male Black Stork (white ring with black code 712W on left leg). His foraging sites and breeding site are situated in southern Estonia, close to Latvian border, in Karula National Park. For trapping of Eedi it was needed one and half months (look the photo gallery of Eedi) and finally we succeed in 1st of September 2015, when most of Black Storks already left for migration, for example other Black Stork named Raivo has been for that time already several days in wintering site. For success of trapping we need to thank colleague Ain for his patience in trapping and Latvian colleague Janis for the new system of trapping nets we finally used with success. Because of late catching date we did not see the breeding place of Eedi, but need to hope for return of the bird in spring. So he breeds in Karula National Park.
Eedi started migration in 9th of September 2015. Eedis "task" is to provide us the information about his feeding sites, because during last years in Karula NP the breeding success of Black Storks was remarkable higher as in general in Estonia and we want to know the reasons for that. In the future we try to find possibilities for to follow also some juvenile storks from Karula NP. Also we can test success of some actions, like camps for restoration of Black Stork feeding sites with help of Eedi and others storks with transmitters. So Eedi visited the improved stream most among other sites.
In 2016 Eedi started migration much earlier as last year, already in 12th of August. That is caused probably of earlier breeding this year. Eedi found easily the places we wanted to trap some other Black Storks for tagging and ate fish in traps...


Eedi flew to Latvia but returned to Estonia.
He is currently south-east of Valga near the Gauja river, on the border between Estonia and Latvia

Birdmap information:
Female Black Stork from the Karula webcam nest, mate of male Karl II. They have been nesting together since 2020, when two late eggs failed to hatch. 2021 three chicks grew up. In 2022, there were also three chicks in the nest, but in addition there was a fourth stepson from orphaned nest.
Kaia was started to track in August 7, 2022, also ringed 718U.
Kaia started its autumn migration on August 10, 2022

Kaia is near Perekhrest'e, about 10 km south of Konchitsy in the Brest Region in Belarus
