06:32 H21 gets up and starts to feed.
(A bird that was still in the nest)

The little chick in the second row stands tall on its little legs and pushes its head between the siblings. Works, but is too tiring. It simply crawls past its siblings and takes pole position alongside its mother. Well done little one!

May 14

Hello Polly and all.

Today has been through water at various times, some strong as at the last minute.
12:19 - 12:32 Feeding of prey that was in the nest, a chick later joins the meal, leaving with the remains H21 when finished.
12:42 - 12:44 H44 visit from the upper branch keeping watch.

The little ones are throwing the droppings further and further and about to come out of the nest.

14:02 H21 brings a green branch to the nest.
14:25 - 14:36 Feeding on prey brought to the nest by H21, one of the chicks has not eaten.
15:40 - 15:42 H44 again visits from branch to branch and talks with H21 who then eats herself and feeds one of the chickens (possibly the one that didn't eat before).
16: 45 H21 came in with a prey and take care of the chickens so that they do not get wet.
16:50 - 16:54 H44 enters, dialogue, brings the prey a little closer and eats something.
18:01 - 18:08 Three of the chickens are fed and one eats very little.
19:48 - 19:56 Feed everyone with prey that went up H21 to remove the remains at the end.
21:16 - 21:20 H21 she feeds more than the chickens that are satisfied with the previous meal.

Shortly after it starts to rain, this time it seems harder.

Chickens that are a week old are already bigger and in another week they will have some down and the shafts of their feathers will begin to come out. They will go fast.

See you tomorrow and good night.

May 16th

I start at 05:23.
I can't say what happened before that. H21 sits on her chicks. The little ones like to push themselves out - but just as much like to snuggle back under the protective tummy of H21. :innocent:

05:57 H44 chirps to H21 from the tree. Not seen but heard.
'58 Now he appears in the nest and brings food. Well prepared. I think a pigeon carcass.

H21 starts feeding her chicks straight away. H44 flutters onto the side branch.

07:13 It looks relaxed in the nest of small and big H's. H21 gets up and starts gnawing on the rest of the food.
Image

Image

It turns into a feeding ... at least two, later more or less all chicks take a few decency bites. It wasn't hunger.

'Feeding' 07:14 - 18

H21 brings the rest of the carcass out of the nest this time.

08:21/22 H21 gets up, loosens and stretches at the edge of the nest.

One of the Mini-H's collects leftover food. :innocent: H21 goes back and takes care of the remaining bites in the nest.

09:56 H21 leaves the nest.
'59 With a branch back. 8-)
Image

11:17 And again H21 leaves the nest.
The chicks appear balanced, happy and look really good and healthy.

11:26 H21 returns with food. H21 is really no grace...
Image

I'm thinking (pondering :whistling: ) whether it might be because she's been lying down for hours that she's awkward at times. Or put additional strain on the Mauser...

However, H21 does not start feeding.
She lies down with her chicks. :innocent:
