14:26 Milda called nearby.
about half a minute later Voldis flew in.

he looked around... and preened...

is this a new schedule? :puzzled:
yesterday Voldis arrived at 14:15 and Milda at 15:21. they left at 16:00.

15:08:20 Milda called nearby. before that calls that sounded like big seagull's calls. Voldis looked in the sky above.

16:48 mega2 wrote in YT chat: "16:34-16:36 žubīte" = a chaffinch
16:49 žubīte ST: "žubīšu mamma atkal vāc ligzdas materiālu.." = "mummy chaffinch collecting nest material."

17:05 mega2 " 16:51:35 sākumā bija redzams augstu debesīs labajā stūrī,tad 16:51:51 lidoja garām ligzdas kokam no labās uz kreiso pusi pēkšķēdams-meža pīle (tēviņš?)🦆"
GT'ed:
"16:51:35 At first it was visible high in the sky in the right corner, then 16:51:51 flew past the nest tree from right to left squeaking-wild duck (male?) 🦆"
it's impossible to say if it was one bird flying by twice or two birds flying by once each, but i'm inclined to agree with mega2: it was a male mallard who flew by twice.

thank you mega2 and žubīte !

May 21

good morning!

a few reservations....

there were rather a lot of short breaks in the stream in the night. it didn't happen all the time but there were some good periods between the worse ones.
4:14 onward the stream fortunately stabilized.

4:06:22 rustling! our lodger left. 8-)
it was too dark to see anything, darker than when the lodger came in the evening.

5:51:40 a bird flew to the spruce on right. then a cuckoo started to sing.
5:53:08 another bird flew to the spruce and a second later both flew away. the cuckoo who was singing flew away to the right and the one who arrived later flew to our top and started cuckoo'ing.
seldom we are lucky to actually see cuckoos here. this time we saw two! :2thumbsup:
he sang on the top a loooong time, till 6:07.

6:08:22 another cuckoo called farther.
6:08:24 'our' cuckoo flew away from our top to the right.
a cuckoo continued calling.

cuckoos were singing actively all morning, starting after 4 when other birds started, too.

6:21 the eagles called far. i think i heard both but i'm not sure.
6:23 again calls. this time only Milda i think.
lower-pitched sound/voices travel longer so Milda is easier to hear from far.

7:15 - 7:17 the tree frogs sang very loud.

7:30 the eaglet turned on the top.
7:31 a young spotty eagle dropped to the nest. 3 CY i think.
the trousers were long so the ankles were not well visible. perhaps it was a male? :puzzled:

7:32:37 the eaglet picked up a cone and threw it over his/her shoulder to his back. :rotf:
then the eaglet was carrying a cone on her/his back for a while before it dropped.
Image

the youngster preened... the cone dropped at about 7:34:15 during preening.

the eaglet looked at the camera but was not afraid of it.

the eaglet worked with the sticks a little.
Image

7:44 Milda and Voldis called far in the forest. the young eagle listened...

the eaglet looked around... looked at the camera but didn't seem to be afraid of it. then the eagle preened more.
this is the whole stay after the arrival and before departure.

8:12:50 a rustle on the top and the top branches were swinging.
8:18:01 Milda dropped down to the nest.
she lifted a few small sticks around...
8:15 she jumped to the top branch. she seems to have lost the last spots on her tail. there's only one tiny . left on the left side.
