The Glaslyn chicks were ringed this evening. Although we are not yet absolutely certain we think we have one female and two males.
We will share a video of the ringing in a few days.

Here is the 2022 ringing video! Thank you yet again to the wonderful ringing team. It is a delight to see three healthy chicks on the nest this year.

We are often asked whether Aran still passes over the Pont Croesor nest when he fishes at the Porthmadog Cob.
The answer is yes he does. The Pont Croesor pair generally just keep watch as Aran passes over, although occasionally Z2/"Aeron" will give a half hearted chip before realising that the osprey overhead is not a threat, but merely the neighbour bringing home a fish. A few days ago we managed to capture the moment on camera.

Pont Croesor Nest Update.
The Pont Croesor Osprey pair, Blue 014 and Z2/"Aeron", have raised two chicks together this year and both chicks are now clearly visible from the viewing hide and with our two 4K cameras located at Pont Croesor.
The oldest of the two chicks is 33 days old today.
Congratulations to Friends of the Ospreys on another successful nest and to the other organisations involved with this pair of ospreys.

Mrs G in the early morning light. Accidentally leaving the camera zoomed on the perch all night sometimes has its benefits!

Our oldest chick, Blue 497, is 49 days old today and the fledging window has officially opened.
Although ospreys can fledge from 49 days old, on average it is around 53 days. This can also vary slightly between males and females. Males mature slightly faster than females, as they are smaller and have less growing to do, so it likely that their lower weight assists an earlier first take off.
On average Glaslyn males fledge at 52.2 days and Glaslyn females at 54 days. Blue 498 is only one day younger than 497 and we wonder who will be the first to fledge?

Our eldest chick Blue 497 took her first flight at 08.11 this morning at 52 days old. She made a short flight around the field supervised by Mrs G before returning to join her siblings on the nest.

Blue 498 fledged from the nest at 05.31 this morning. He took a short flight around the nest trees before landing on the camera post watched over by Mrs G from the perch. He has since made several short flights.
Will Blue 499 join his brother and sister and take his first flight today?

Here is a video of 497's first flight! Who will be next to take to the sky?
I'm too late to get a screenshot of 498 flying, but I like this picture of him on the nest perch
