At first I thought of two female voices. H21 and her girl. Not consensual.
I have now decided that it is only a female voice. Definitely upset. If H97 - why upset.
More like H21 - which is beginning to 'close' its territory. Also for their juveniles (then corresponds to the first speculation). What speaks for two voices, the first arriving voice being the bright youthful one.

The first voice is juvenile in flight and then the other feminine tone that ends up approaching the nest area near the tall innkeeper who cannot be seen , where the camera is (We have seen his shadow almost all season). It doesn't seem like H21 at all to me, but if she's angry she'll have some nuance that she doesn't usually bring out.
The doubt remains but I think it is not H21.
The one from the other day did seem more to me because it was linked to the gjack that we have seen and heard so much. The repertoire of communication sounds escapes us, we know a few but not all.

It may be two or three counting to H44.

For me there is no such expulsion of the offspring at this time, they simply do not feed them and they scatter. Perhaps very soon if they come into heat there may be some intimidation but we have seen other hawks in the nest in February and there have been no visible violence.

I do not believe that the goshawks are so violent and killers between them as they are put everywhere except in the hunt. It makes no sense to be fighting all day except for very specific periods.
Many of these behaviors are borrowed from falconry or falconer-based naturalists where conditions are different from nature. I do not deny the capacities and behaviors of the goshawks because we have seen in other couples how the males are very careful with the females of their partners. But here we not only have an exception but a good example of affection between the two members of the couple.


Watching C86 last year, H44's father, I have no doubt that he looked "good" as possibly the character of his son.

Also in Riga they are very close together, I think that near these goshawks there are at least three pairs or more in distances that would be unthinkable in the countryside and they have to live together without reaching the limit.

Yes, I remember him. And that I liked him. C86 seemed gentle.... and he slid through the territory with his son H44 at the same time.

I also remember the statement by Imants Jakovslevs in the neighboring forum. C86 was only a guest...passing through, curious. His female was already sitting on eggs at this time. He was peaceful side by side with his son H44 who had found his new territory.

From 12:36 The quiet briefing ...it sounds when our H's sit close together. No volume...almost barely audible at times. Especially the short sounds - 'Gjak'. However, they are close...

'37:16 suddenly and I think H21 - her voice gets loud.(I would correct....Juvenile calls)
Then, in my opinion, the reputation of a juvenile follows.
I think it's two different voices, even if it sounds like one at first. Voice and position do not seem identical.

Hello, Polly, good afternoon.

The ones in the morning sound like goshawk sounds with the timbre of a blackbird (surely jays).

In the afternoon, I only have clear some of the youth. The others have something weird.
Jays are capable of mimicking even perfectly but usually change the timbre somewhat.

There has been no previous jay alarm but it is easy for adults and juveniles to learn.

We have similar activity today... female contact calls, demanding.

10:39, '40 flapping noises and a touch of 'Gjak'

10:43 H21 with 'their' reputation - demand. Each only briefly with 3 sounds
'45, '46, '47

It appears the pair are in the territory together. Even though Goshawks are solitary outside of the breeding season (according to the literature), they still seek out contact with one another from time to time and spend time together in the shared territory.


Sometimes, even when we don't see or hear them, there are clues to their hidden presence.
It's not just the crows that nag. Other residents also warn each other...Blackbirds. Their tireless chirping of warnings could be a clue for us.
But it could also be the presence of the cats...possibly. We know they are there. Soon the time will come when we will be able to hear mating cats again....
