Hungary hobby falcon fledge: August 10, 2022

On Mavir-Facebook website they said yesterday:
Escape from the nest box. On August 10, around 5 a.m., the falcon chicks suddenly jumped up in alarm. First they collided and both fell, then they flew away again.

One chick jumped to the left, the other to the right, towards the open spaces of the nest box. One of them managed to land on the edge of the iron supporting the nest box. The other one can be seen spreading its wings as it falls, and if you continue the sequence, you can see it glide.

Many of our observers contacted us after the incident, and we thank them all.

Our cable inspectors were alerted and went to the scene to search for the fledged chick. The area around the pole is overgrown with tall corn, which can provide excellent roosting habitat for the birds and protection from stray dogs and foxes. Our colleagues did not find the bird or any feathers that would indicate injury or prey capture. It is likely that the chick managed to sail into the tree line and is now waiting for food from its parents.

The other chick that landed on the T-beam was also observed by our expert, and he felt that it was also safe. He decides (as soon as the parents show up with the prey) whether to fly (sail) from there to the tree line or jump back into the incubator.
According to our experts, both chicks are strong and nimble enough to leave the nest, so we don't have to worry about them.

Last year, fledged hobby chicks returned to the nest box several times. Hopefully they will return this time.
An interesting observation in the last few days was that the chicks were fighting very aggressively over the prey. Probably after fledging the parents move the prey to a different place for each of the chicks so that they can eat it in peace and there is no fight over the prey.
We thank you for the images you saved, for monitoring the monitor, and look forward to you continuing to capture interesting and important moments of nest watching.
