Ah, great to hear it, Johan. Thank you.

There was a lot of vocalizing today by Helju and Margit. On and on and on, off and on, and on and off.

Some timestamps:
05:46:46 - 06:15:43 - 07:14:29 (Helju/Margit overlap) - 08:19:48 - 10:15:28 (overlap) - 11:20:37 - 12:03:03 (overlap) - 13:28:50 -14:22:39 (overlap) - 15:19:06

Helju arrives in silence.

Image

She stares at what remains of the duck, which earlier in the morning was bustling with activity. It appeared that some carrion beetles were enjoying a feast. Helju takes it in from various angles, and then is overcome by a sudden itch that can't be ignored.

Image

She scratches her face and ruffles her feathers out. Ahh, much better, I'm sure.

12:55:15 - Fairly desiccated. A carrion beetle falls unceremoniously into the nest and scurries back into hiding.

Image

Helju will take this one To Go. We see that she has molted some of her twelve rectrices over the summer, and that a shiny brand new one is growing in.

Image

12:55:30 - Farewell. Three minutes at the eyrie.

19:02:36 - 19:06:52 - 20:00:41 - We hear, I think Helju. It is a call that is probably described as Wawk and/or Skawk, Wonk and/or Skonk (in the earlier monograph). I don't yet, know. This chart is by David H. Ellis, and can be found in the book, Behavior of the Golden Eagle: An Illustrated Ethogram. Much of what can be learned therein, can also be found in his published paper, Development of Behavior in the Golden Eagle, currently available for free at that link. Click and scroll down.

19:06:13 - Margit is around too. Farther away from the microphone.

The season is no longer being recorded in mysterious realms beyond YouTube, and so, when the stream goes kaput and I'd not been around to save the screenshots, all is lost for me. As a result, I was not able to record Margit's first visit to the nest this morning. Thankfully, remsdrongo listed the timestamps in chat. Thank you, kindly.

2022-08-11

First, before I retired for the night, I heard Margit vocalizing at:
05:28:21 - 06:23:42 - 07:53:20

10:24 - Margit in nest
10:27 - Margit on branch (buffering)
10:30 - Margit on curved branch
10:54 - Margit has left

Thirty minute visit.

16:18:27 - Second visit. Margit arrives in silence. Presumably, this indicates that no parents are nearby, or Margit has failed to detect them.

The day is windy. Margit hunkers down, resting and preening in the nest.

A rectrix is hidden from us. We get a chance to count it later. Juveniles do not molt during this period, but mishaps can happen.

19:27:53 - Margit begins vocalizing for the first time at the eyrie during this visit. She spies Helju or Kalju.

All twelve rectrices accounted for. Thank you, sunlight.

Helju or Kalju flash past beneath the nest, Margit calling to them excitedly.

Image

Off to intercept. Three hours and eleven minutes at the eyrie.

Image

19:31:03 - Her calling quiets down.
19:39:47 - Some chit chat.
19:45:48 - Then back to a long string of more vocal excitement.
20:40:45 - The rustling sound of a landing Margit. She is vocalizing nearby.

Unfortunately I must disperse before Margit. Life is less friendly than I would like at the moment, and I must spend more time away from the machine. Sorry to drop the ball so suddenly. I'll be lurking now and again, maybe a post here or there, but the more time consuming daily recording process must be set aside for now.

Day 114; Week 16 (as of August 15). 39 days post-fledging.

15:59:11 - Margit visits the eyrie.

Image

15:59:45 - She leaps to the curved branch.

Image

Image

18:18:27 - Then to the far left branch, calling in several short bursts after she does so, though not enthusiastically.
19:32:59 - Three hours and thirty three minutes at the eyrie. Margit leaves, dipping down towards the peat bog angling right, but circles back low to the left. We can only see her briefly beyond the canopy and the dead tree top, followed by flashes of her movement through the foliage as she re-enters the canopy, flying below and towards the nest to realms unknown.

You're welcome, rysx. Thank you for recording and sharing the video clip for the Archives of Margit. :>

Margit arrives at the eyrie, calling in a couple short strings.

She hops into the nest and hangs out, partially hidden behind the forebranch.
