10:30:about 35 an eagle flew away from the top by the Sisters and Cousins.
no, it was probably an osprey after all. the wings were long and narrow. the tail was too dark even for a young eagle. also the tail was long and wide like an open fan.

14:12 a visitor! who was this?? a brown bird of prey, slightly bigger than a raven. dark brown feathers on the wings and back, with light brown tips.
Image

long wings which cross above the tail when the bird stood on the nest. large spots of dark feathers around the eyes.
here there is some low notch in the end of the tail.
Image

long reddish-brown trousers.

grey legs. (they were not well visible but i marked the leg here).
Image

14:12:50 flew out. dark tail with white/light tips of feathers. the end of tail was even (the notch 'disappeared'?).

could it be a young black kite, Milvus migrans?

hello AlteEule!
a lesser spotted eagle is one possibility, but it doesn't quite look right. :puzzled:
a young LSE should have a rusty-red spot in the back of the head and a adults should be evenly brown. :puzzled:
besides the trousers of LSE are shorter...

14:11 a big bird circled high in the sky above the meadow... the bird was visible in the top right. it had to be our visitor.
here's a longer version of the visit.

i asked the people in Karula BS what they thought and there were a few opinions that the visitor was a black kite (Milvus migrans). i hope that vainamoinen or some other specialist would confirm this.

i sent the question to vainamoinen.

in the meanwhile:
20:03:00 a great spotted woodpecker flew to out top. she called...
20:03:52 the woodpecker flew away.

21:18:42 a big white bird flew by from right to left. all white, no other markings. wide long wings. short neck, big head. no tail (= short). not a swan, not a white stork. :puzzled:
Image

the bird that came to my mind was a snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) which is very unlikely. :faint:

21:46 a pygmy owl? yes, but far.

22:56 a tawny owl called near. she was loud!
there was probably another owl, too, a little farther.

23:05 rustling near the microphone.
23:08 more.
