Good evening Emiliano :2thumbsup:

Yes, it looks very calm off-road. Almost as if the H's weren't there.
Sometimes in the middle of nowhere you can hear H44 with soft sounds. H21 often doesn't respond but I suspect she must be close. H44 talks to her.

This time is typical Goshawk - so unobtrusive, so invisible.

Here are the sounds of this morning.
Thank you!

It seems the coming together comes from H21. It was not until 06:49 that there was no further reaction from H44. Before yes ...
Or: H21 demands from H44 and he disappeared to collect the gift? Unlikely right?

Then again there are sounds from H44 - soft sounds only.
Even quite often. In most cases there is no reaction from H21.

Alredy today .... :innocent:
15:36

Since I only have one relatively well-functioning ear, I use headphones when it fits. Background noises in the household let me not hear a lot of other things. These lutes are really very smart.

Staying connected seems to be very important to this couple. Regardless of seasons or month... :innocent:

We also have a sociable activity in the area in the evening. Many of the H's resident neighbors drift through the branches...

18:40 Little birds chattering in the tree

'48:20, '23 H44 with two soft tones (H21 not heard)

Then the jay squawks...can you hear the woodpecker too?.
We see him '52:14 to the left of the trunk. Before behind the logo of LDF.

As it should be for autumn - the chainsaw is also part of it.

'55/56 blackbirds on the upper and side branches.

Good night Polly.

I did not put the seconds in the times because there were many in a short time.

In winter in the territories I visit, at most I hear the goshawk once and sometimes twice, but it is normal not to hear anything until well into the breeding season. Today the H's have behaved. Here, we are lucky that they tend to be quite predictable in the morning for much of the year.

From what we are seeing, they are stable and maintain the relationship as long as they are together. (After breeding there seems to be a time when they disappear, July-August, perhaps due to having to stop feeding the chicks.)

There are still the months from October to March, which may be the most difficult, but in Riga the "civility" softens the weather somewhat and there is food for the adults, the chickens and possibly for the wintering ones.

I did notice that there is more human noise as if they were groups of children on occasion.

Greetings and I hope you are better.

September 28th

Good evening, Emiliano :hi:

Like clockwork this morning, H21 was immediately audible. sounded energetic.
06:55/56

07:00 - 44 H21 keeps calling, always with the same sound. And in a relaxed rhythm of 10 minutes. Everything, however, at a greater distance.

During the day I did not detect any further presence.

18:32 A crow nags around the nest tree. At least pretty close...the voice of H21 follows her displeasure.
She seems urgent. H21 only uses this type of calling when he is very excited.
I don't know if it was because of the one lone crow - inconceivable actually. Our H's have sometimes chased away large flocks of crows.

Well, I'm missing H44 in the day...no sure sign of him today. Is H21 urgently looking for her partner?

It's just the near, immediate calls.

Warm greetings

Good evening Polly and everyone.

This morning it was not heard but it was at the last minute:

19:24:22, 24, 30, 46
19:25:03 - 05

At the moment there are no signs of H44, they all seem to be H21.

All the best

Thank you Emiliano for your commitment. :2thumbsup:

Yes, I do not confirm your observation without a slight concern.
H21 sometimes calls very energetically but there is no reaction from H44. It is possible that the joint action of couples usually takes a break in this phase. However, up until a few days ago they could be heard a lot together in the area and H44 is a very caring partner. Not responding to his partner's calls is not very typical of him.

I'll keep hoping for a sign from him.

17:45 - 18:02 Probably H21 'falls' on the upper branch.
Visibly relaxed, confident and fluffy, she spends many minutes in the nest tree.

It sounds like she's in the company of her smaller neighbors.
Also their departure without noise or excitement.

October 1st

Good evening Polly and everyone. :hi:

6:55:30 - 41 H21 sounds energetically.

It had been a long time since one of them had been seen directly, since September 4.

The crows have given her away as soon as she left the tree.

All the best

October 2nd

Emiliano :hi:

And today the couple treats us to a few moments together...
The first sounds of H21 sound from a fixed position. She was already there. Probably even with H44.
She masters the whistle - like in sports. If I heard it in the wild - it would never occur to me that it could be Goshawk :slap: (I assume only females use this tone).

We then see the couple flying together into the group of trees on the left. (repeated in slow motion in the video).

Two females voices currently ...
I'm just going through it. (videos later.)

PS: No sign from H44

H21 very melodic.

17:34 on the side branch.
Adorable our H21. :innocent:

After the call of the crow came the call of H21.
We can see a Goshawk in flight at 17:22:55 (repeated in slow motion video).

Later at :27:00 it was clear that we were hearing two female calls. No aggression, just shouting.

H21 flaps to the nest tree, onto the side branch. To document their nest?
She is relaxed but alert in her white skirt. Ready and willing for a next season. :innocent:

After a crack, she left the tree. It's possible that H44 was nearby.

Hello Polly and everyone. :hi:

Thanks for the graphic documentation. :2thumbsup:

It seems that there is another female and H21 is guarding her territory.
They have sounds that are not usual that they make at times like this, they are usually short although they can be repeated.

Today has been inauspicious with a strong wind in the afternoon.

Goodnight

¡Hola Emiliano! :2thumbsup:

Even today the unfavorable weather dominates ... Winds dominate the district climate .

I can imagine that long-distance communication is also slightly disrupted in this weather.

A couple will therefore seek physical proximity, which results in less acoustics.
Females/females seem to be more vocal. (Call more...) While males may limit themselves outside of their foraging duties to only responding to the female's explicit contact calls...well...if she is present and willing.
Same here ... as with us. :D

I only heard the woodpecker today. Well at least.

Any rest is okay if they are fine.

On June 24 of this year H44 courted H21, she was on the branch and he climbed into the nest doing his typical dance. There he took the initiative and well taken it was something new because the chickens were still in the surroundings and they were for a longer time. (We have the video).

I think that when the weather stabilizes we will be able to listen perhaps to what happened last year with sounds and copulations for sure. Each year will not be the same and the weather will influence its own.

I also just heard at 15:31 , 15:36 , 15:39 , 15:40 sounds from one of them (H21, I think).

In Scotland before yesterday the male was also seen (possibly ) at the nest quite a few times putting up sticks.

All the best.
