Xavier left the nest box , after Di told him she doesn't want a change. He is so cute! Then he brought a prey and flew away with it again.

NEWS updated 1st October

HATCH ! !st hatch at 0927 am. Chick strong and healthy and also been fed. Very fast hatch, less than two hours.

We haven't seen any pips (small holes made by chick) as yet in the other two eggs, but that should start any day now. From pip to full hatch usually takes 24 to 72 hours. The chick has a special egg tooth to help it cut itself out and a powerful hatching muscle at the back of its head (both of which disappear after hatching).

Liz, this wasn't a crack, it was a feather from prey
when she rolled the egg in, you could see it dangling.

06.26 here a feather (from prey) stuck to chick's beak after a feeding
see also a drop of blood (from prey) on the left egg - no PIP yet but faint sounds were heard
