Thanks Anne, thanks Treia
... poorly translated again
I did not mean the stupid Voog, of course, but the bad Voog . Bonus sometimes did not feel comfortable when he was alone on the nest with Voog ...
Then we wish all our protégés very good luck and 30 years and more lifetime.
Little Waba, why are you wasting your power? You want to see the beautiful islands again?
Now we are curious about Bonus again.

Honestly, I don't think there was anything wrong with Voog's behaviour. Nor with that of any of the other storklets.
Every year we see beak fighting, mock attacks and some teasing on the nest. I think this is a game to increase agility and alertness. In many animal species littermates exhibit this play behaviour. Some youngsters are a bit more assertive than others. Sometimes things get a bit rough, yes, but the intentions are not hostile. If the "victim" reacts angrily to excessive (or hurtful) teasing, the "attack" stops. This is how they learn to indicate their limits. All this is useful training for later.
BS are wild animals that need to be permanently on edge, and I think that's why it's good that Bonus wasn't coddled by his new nestmates (I mean: not more than the others. We also saw a lot of cuddling). Especially after being cared for by humans for so long, it will probably have sharpened Bonus’ 'wild' traits a bit.
"Being sweet, shy and submissive" are not traits that will improve our wild animals' chances of survival.

Anne, thank you
I have read it twice and it will be good for me to repeat it.
You explained everything very well and clearly.
They are wild animals - they need to be able to defend themselves.
I guess, I have to correct my basic attitude.

We are human beings and what's more, we love animals. Therefore, we feel sorry for the vulnerable or those who were unlucky, like little Bonus. We want to protect, coddle and help them, as we would with our children and pets.
But for wild animals, we cannot (constantly) do that. Yes, they have to (learn to) defend themselves and be resilient and fierce.
Thank you Jo and Francesca
Yes, what will Waba do next?
S/he hasn't been in this area before.
Waba is near Girra Barra, in the Addabah district of Northern state, Sudan

Fussel, Anne,
I am also very protective and would love to be out and about with our storks, protecting them from the rigours of life. Just as I would do with people or pets I love.
Since Bonus seems to be doing better than I feared, but Waba is still in desert land, I would move there now and dump a whole basket full of fish and frogs.

Yumurtalik Lagoon National Park
https://goo.gl/maps/VALyJsBgebMFLNHJ9
The Yumurtalık Lagoons are located between the point where the Ceyhan River empties into the sea and the Yumurtalık Bay and is a highly complex wetland system consisting of fresh and salt water marshes, wide barren plains, mud flats, reeds, wet meadows, dunes and Aleppo pine forest. Yumurtalık Lagoons covers an area of 16,979.94 hectares and was declared as a 1st degree protected area in 1993 by the Adana Culture and Nature Conservation Board, and as a Nature Conservation area in 1994 by the decision of the Council of Ministers and included in the scope of the Ramsar Convention in 2005. It was declared the 44th national park of Turkey on 16.10.2009.
http://www.yumurtalik.gov.tr/lagunler-ve-kus-cenneti
Ramsar Sites Information
Yumurtalik Lagoons. 21/07/05; Adana; 19,853 ha; 36°42'N 035°38'E. Nature Conservation Site. Comprises the whole of the alluvial delta formed by several rivers in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, with a broad array of freshwater and coastal habitat types which support sand dune vegetation, salt marsh vegetation, stream bank vegetation, and ruderal vegetation of roadsides and field margins. The threatened sea turtles Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas are supported, and the site is one of the key points where migratory birds on the Palaearctic-Africa route meet, using the site as both a stopover and a wintering site. It is also a key area for fish reproduction. The main uses of the area are irrigation agriculture, commercial and artisanal fishing, and recreation, as it is close to the city of Adana along a beautiful and uncrowded coast. Ramsar site no. 1619. Most recent RIS information: 2006.

Edit:
The temperature in Kaldırım, a village in the District of Yumurtalık, Adana Province, close to Bonus' location was 19°C at 20:00 (local time)

Hi everyone ,
what a difference these few days have made. Three days ago we were all desperately hoping that Bonus move on, and now we want him / her to stay at this wonderful spot. But whatever s/he decides to do next, s/he achieved a lot in those last day.
As for Waba, seeing the pictures of the Nile and its riverline, it's hard for me to imagine that s/he has problems finding food there... But I guess s/he has a lot of rivals for that food, which could make it more difficult...

Hulbi,
in my opinion, this place is just wonderfully "storkish", which made me wish him a longer stay there. It is a famous nature reserve, not only agricultural fields with ditches. but I know - my view is only a human's view. we will see what Little Bonus will decide.

Hello, I am glad that our friends are doing well and that they are finding their way to richly filled tables. What worries me a bit is that there are plans to expand the defense training area, I've read it on looduskalender and on Estonian TV news, this wouldn't be far from Karula. I have signed a petition via the looduskalender link.

Hi Nala,
is this the article on Looduskalender main page you are referring to?
https://www.looduskalender.ee/n/node/7212
I´ve also read it and as far as I understand from the web page link where one can vote
https://rahvaalgatus.ee/initiatives/830 ... -1MeqgDflE
- only Estonian permanent residents have the right to vote
'Allkirjastada saab vähemalt 16aastane Eesti alaline elanik ID-kaardi, Mobiil-ID või Smart-ID-ga'
Google translator says:
'A permanent resident of Estonia at least 16 years old can sign with an ID card, Mobile ID or Smart ID'
Maybe one of our Estonian speaking members can confirm or correct this? That would be great, thanks in advance!
