December 6th

Hello Polly. .

Today in the morning it sounds again soon as it usually does, although lately it has rarely done so.
(8:10:57 - 8:11:05).

Following sounds: 8:53 - 54 - 55

An individual has also been heard at 14:56 and nothing else until nightfall.

Although it may seem that it is not much, it is enough to know that they are there and they will also have to rest a little throughout the year.

Good evening Emiliano, @all

We are helping to move the children. I can't follow what's happening in the area.
It should be done now and I hope to be able to follow the pair again tomorrow. I miss seeing if they are okay.
But maybe I just sleep for a few hours first...I'm broken.
:faint: :rotf:

Emiliano, the shouts from both of them?

I greet you very warmly :innocent:

No, they have only been from one individual.

It seems that H21 is the most active presence at the moment although H44 is around, his sounds are more occasional.

We will see how they evolve because even if they started to bring some stick or other to the nest, there is still a lot left for the true heat, the strong cold will be about to arrive in January-February and also this couple has not been a great nest builder, they have done the right thing, pulling little ... but they are excellent !!!

Goodnight.

A little soft opening for me today. I'm still watching at double speed but I don't think much is happening anymore. ((16:08 current status)

A few shouts at the garden fence that almost seem to come from the neighborhood.

It snowed nicely.
The snow gives softness and calm...even the squadron of crows bows to the onset of winter.
Our animals retreat into energy-saving mode. :innocent:
They are now focused on getting food as effectively as possible. It's harder now...

They will all be present but use their resources well.

...pulling little ... but they are excellent !!!
...H21 has put its first egg in an unmade nest. :slap: :rotf:

It seems incredible when you (we did!) watched the building skills of other couples (Alla & Ruudi) at the same time.

But both worked.

I suspect that H44 & H21 do not have this variety of nesting material.
They are "town hawks"...Alla & Ruudi have a densely wooded territory.

A question of adaptability. Hawks raise their brood in wall niches and on gravel... everything works.

Hello Polly

I know couples that make big nests and others that make them small. In general each year that passes they are bigger in the same pairs but lately they are not very big.

In the breeding season there is a lot of vegetable mass, even if it is not pine, that they could use but they have not done so much.

The goshawks always nest in their own trees or in other species that they fix.
Peregrine falcons (falco peregrinus) tend to breed on internal or external ledges and eagle owls anywhere and as you say everything works.

All the best

December 8th

Hello Polly and all.

Energetic sounds again at dawn 8:15
Goshawk sounds : 10:38 , 11:00 , 11:02 , 11:03 , 12:42 , 12:43 , 13:08 , 15:54

Almost all of the sounds have been very brief.

9:08 - 10 Little Bird on the branch , 13:45 A little bird peeks out of a twig on the right side of the trunk. They have continued to visit the nest and its surroundings.

December 9th

Hello together :hi:

Emiliano, thank you very much!

At least most of the time during the light phase of the day I was able to observe something ... and how fantastically bright it was today!!!! :2thumbsup:

Image

A beautiful sight and actually very quiet today, weather-wise and so...
We had the Jay again a few times today. The little guy cheekily takes over when the larger neighbors aren't around - in the tree.
08:30 half Jay/half Goshawk

09:01 calls removed (short call)

09:24 Jay jumps and sings around in the tree... oh, he's really adorable.

And again 12:03 chirping and snow falling.
Too quiet for Goshawk based on the flapping noises (we see his shadow though from Jay).

Gosh-Jay is really good at it!

Then 12:37 for a few minutes we hear calls that could be assigned to a Goshawk at least in the further course.
I wasn't sure at first, but the calls became more typical of H21.
Possibly, not without a doubt for me.

12:58 - 13:09 A series of short calls every minute. Doesn't sound immediate.

December 10th

Good evening :hi:

13:07 - 14:01 We finally get to see an H again. :innocent:

Silently slipped onto the branch and in fact no vocalizations were made.
Image

Image

Was very focused on the factory grounds and the yellow mast.
Then something of interest must have happened - suddenly Tempo went into sleep mode - Goshawk and he left the branch into the grove. I suspect it was H21.

Laying with sticks would be unfavorable. Rather 'find the stick' .... :D

Today temperatures were expected to be between -9°C and -15°C.
Tomorrow it will be milder - down to -9°C.

The closed snow cover makes it more difficult to find food. Still, it looks amazing...

I can say with certainty that there were no calls today, or immediate ones.

Good night!

December 10th

Hello Polly.

Thanks for your reports.

Today she has appeared in front of the camera again but without much fanfare, like a ghost to which the dark part of her gives away in front of the precious light in the snowy landscape.
Undoubtedly many days it will be the same but without seeing it: close stillness "playing" the most characteristic of the goshawk in all publications. The ghost of the forest or the pirate of the thicket.

The day before in my publication it was playing with some regularity but most of the time I heard it at an accelerated speed, so it may not all be his as Polly pointed out a day later (the jay is also a master of imitation).

Greetings and see you tomorrow.

December 11th

Good evening for the third Advent. :innocent:

08:43 Clear calls heard
'44 'Gjak' up close...Possibly close to the nest tree
'45 shouts in distance. Here I consider that we hear two Goshawk. The 'Gjak' before and these calls do not appear to belong to the same Goshawk. It somehow doesn't fit, even if he flaps quickly.

'45/46 calls

'58 H21 I think.
Yes.

11:12 calls in the field

The call sequence:

11:27:42 ...about

We can see two birds
First: launches low in flight at the industrial site
Shown as a black pixel. Low flight...probably a Goshawk.
Second: Come out of the grove.
Image

At least the second controls the nest tree directly.
The approach is actually much more elegant than the picture makes it appear.
Comes very gracefully...a Goshawk. :innocent:

'50 A crow above also in the direction of the nest tree

Well, it's not as deserted as it seems. :innocent:

14:40 Crows are approaching.
As a result, we can hear cracking noises in the tree.
14:55 'Gjak' the tree chirps several times. :whistling:

In the further course we can hear cracking noises in the tree.
And crows approaching.

15:33 Indeed - our couple communicates!!!! :loveshower: :loveshower: :loveshower:
We can also see one coming in low.
It's so good to hear both!!!!

16:15/16 Again alarming crows.
It's getting dark, but they don't miss anything.

I remember last winter when they gurgled in the middle of the night. Must have been an owl?

Hello Polly.

I've also heard it from 8:17 to 8:19 and the crows around 8:30 and after.

Are you listening to something weird in the background ?

I was still in bed... clueless.
I should get up earlier. :D

A nice side effect, by the way, if you work long hours... you hear more of the night.
We heard the male long-eared owl...unfortunately without a response from the female.
Unusual for the coldest day in a long time?

Nice to hear you!' :2thumbsup:

Only working camera. It's buzzing.
/similar grind - squeak. Similar to a printer.
More since it's so chilly.
Do you mean something else Emiliano?

Hello again, Polly.

Thanks for all information. :2thumbsup:

It is indeed a great joy to see that they are both and continue in good harmony. :loveshower:

How difficult it must be for many animals (especially small ones) to endure those cold temperatures without being able to eat for days on end, many will choose to stay still and hide so as not to spend energy waiting for the situation to change.

All the best.

Last night I heard those repetitive sounds and I thought they were nearby interference but today I still hear them in my town. It is telegraphy - morse and gives repetitive sequences, I only distinguish letters but not the entire sequence. It is surely a beacon (as if it were a ship's lighthouse) that will have slipped into the frequency due to harmonics.

Good evening . -- .. .-.. .. .- -. --- , @all! :hi:

It is very interesting what you write.
In fact, I remembered noticing similar things as well. However, it was already one, maybe even two seasons ago. I also reported.

I'm technically a complete loser. But can I imagine that these signals accidentally slip into this frequency?

There was nothing to see today - but really nothing. :dunno:
The weather was very unfavorable in the first half of the day. The wind blew the snow from the trees. I can imagine it feeling icy....

So break today - hibernation, so to speak.
