10:21:58, '22:00 Quiet crackling and 'Gjak'. Seems pretty close to the nest.

Yes.
10:49:55 Announcement with a crack and the Goshawk changes position from the lower level up to the side branch.
(Seems to be a popular place to sit down there. We also saw a Goshawk sitting there on January 5th.)

Undoubtedly metal ring on the right foot, black ring can be assumed. Broad eyebrows, V mark in tail feathers. It could be H21.

Jump up onto the branch tip.

'53/54 She gets an uncomfortable visit from a crow.
A tit flaps and chirps fearlessly in front of her at eye level.

'54 Away to the industrial area

The visit

13:00:39 (approx) clear 'Gjak'
I think they were there all along (and still are). There are always signs of movement in the undergrowth.

13:19:06/07 My goodness, you can hardly hear it! Then two sounds rustle softly, almost throatily. they whisper. 8-)
Are they both sitting close together?

It cannot be ruled out that we will get more clear signs of the couple today.

But I have to go to work now.

Good morning Polly and everyone. :hi:

Thanks for your notifications.

It seems that they are already there. H21 already has the white of the down displayed and drops something when changing position.

All I'm reading about winter dispersal is from cold non-urban sites where individuals move away and gradually return until they approach the breeding area about a month before laying. Within the urban, I would differentiate those that are in the vicinity of cities and towns occupying wooded sites , rivers, streams, lakes, also with open sites (Tartu type) and those that are urban and massive, such as Riga, Hamburg, Berlin ...
In these places they cannot afford to leave their area for a long time (they don't need it) and they have to take care of the area from other possible occupations starting in January.
Another thing is that they start already with territorial demonstrations in December (like Margo and his partner) or they delay it a little more as it seems the case of the H's.
The female seems to be the most active in taking care of the territory and it is already good news that she appears in the nest tree with symptoms of onset of heat.

Regards

15:20 - 16:25 The couple lingers near the nest tree. Maybe longer before and after. But as this time their presence is undeniable.

additionally:
15:33:50/51 During the call a goshawk can be seen flapping at the 'meeting point'.

16:25:30 Sounds like bitching. :D
Both euphoric.

...and drops something when changing position.
Interesting.
I didn't pay attention and will look into it.

What can we conclude from this or what does the behavior say?

Sleep well!

The white down of the goshawk is the first thing that the female drops in the nest when she is incubating, it falls to the ground little by little and gets caught on the edges of the nest and on the branches that stop it in its path.
It is one of the distinctive signs of occupation when nothing else is visible from below. Later they are the first feathers of the chickens that later give way to the cannons and the rest of the feathers. Its fundamental mission is to keep the hot air against the body to insulate them from the cold, starting to regulate the temperature somewhat.
In adults it is also used as a sign of heat for their partner and other individuals when they try to mate.

The other day, reviewing a video of Margo in December 2016, she was in the nest calling excitedly and with the target displayed while the male also answered from up close. On the other visits she no longer wore her white and she used it only for that specific function at that time.

Greetings and rest. :offtobed:

Thanks Emiliano, you mean the magnificent dress. I had assumed H21 would be carrying something in its claws and dropping or expelling something.

Yes, H21 already has a beautiful (magnificent) dress! Her skirt is wide and voluminous. :loveshower:

She's already showing us this morning...

January 22

08:54 H21 lands in the nest with a strong voice.
Her eyes turn a dark yellow, almost orange. :innocent:

Her behavior is temperamental ... she calls, jumps before she finally sits down.

09:00 H21 poops overboard before exiting the tree into the industrial area

10:43 One is present in hiding. Short sound nearby.
(probably in the nest tree)
In the distance, crows nag.
