https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veiOLZi1TPYLady Hawk: Welcome to the world E21- official hatch time is 20:22:42 (8:42pm) It took E21 36 hours 20 minutes and 22 seconds to hatch!
Harriet comes back to the nest in the evening to take over incubation duties and M15 will get up and head to the attic. Little E21 is almost hatched at this point - half way out of the shell. About two hours later, Harriet will get up and we get our first peek at the new hatchling -what a blessing and wonderful evening to share E21's hatch live on chat! M15 does not know that E21 has hatched so when he returns in the morning he will be in for a nice surprise! Then time for him to stock the pantry!! What a beautiful sight to watch a new life come into the world and we are all counting our blessings today! We look forward to seeing a pip on egg #2 soon! Thank you for watching!

Harriet is in trouble
Check FB swfl nefl eagles.
I was wondering where she is. Yesterday there was no food for E22. Today there was food for both of them, but Harriet wasn't there.
Southwest Florida Eagle Cam on FB:
Harriet, our dedicated and loyal matriarch, has not been seen in the nest area since yesterday late afternoon. While M defends & protects the nest solo, all we can do is watch and wait for a hopeful return of Harriet soon. ❤
We will post any updates on our website & here on social media.
https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestFloridaEagleCam/
and Pritchett:
12:35p M drops to nest, intruder flies in lands on veranda. 12:36p M hops up, chases intruder, intruder flies, lands on treetop. 12:39 intruder on W upper branch, 12:48p Close up of intruder up top, 12:56p Warning vocals from M

There is a intruder since ca. 1 hour! Poor M15 ...
as soon as a partner is missing, they come
I will do videos tomorrow. If Harriet doesn't come back, there's no way I'm going to keep watching. No matter what happens, I don't want to know. that are really shocking news.

A statement from the SWFEC Live Chat tonight:
Feb 3, 8:02 PM
samour17 (Admin): As we close I would like to share this with all of you. The Pritchetts are aware that Harriet has not been to the nest since Thursday afternoon. CROW has been contacted, but at this time there is nothing they can do. M15 has been protecting the eaglets from an intruder and has provided food. If Harriet doesn’t come back we are not sure what FWC will decide to do. It is up to them, not the Pritchetts. All we can do is wait and see what transpires. CROW has not admitted any injured eagles as of today.

A beloved Southwest Florida eagle has been missing for more than 24 hours. M-15 and the two eaglets remain at the nest, but Harriet is nowhere to be found.
The news of Harriet’s disappearance has stirred up quite the conversation, and some worry for her safety. M-15 has had to take over parental duties.
M-15 and the eaglets are about to spend their second night in a row without Harriet.
WINK News saw three other eagles in the area on Friday, putting the eagle family on edge. Especially M-15, who was seen locking talons with them and defending his babies at their North Fort Myers nest.
Raptor specialist from the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey, Beth Lott, says eagles lock talons when mating or fighting.
Since M-15 already has a mate, it’s likely M-15 was defending his territory.
“It’s not living like we do. It’s surviving, which is a lot harder. So yes, they’re constantly fending off predators that would feed on their babies and themselves,” said Lott.
Harriet has not been seen since Thursday afternoon, and Lott says with two babies that aren’t even a month old yet, that’s a concern.
“We get a lot of territory attacks in with eagles, what this sounds like it possibly could be. Another eagle came into their territory, and they got into a fight. And maybe Harriet possibly didn’t come out good on that end of it. And they really go after each other. It’s not just to hurt them, it’s to. They’ll go and kill them.”
It’s not clear where Harriet is or why she left.
In the meantime, M-15 was seen protecting the eaglets from the other intruding eagles.
“We have seen three. Yes, that is correct. One that looks to be a full adult with a white head and a white tail and two sub-adults that are still very dark and have dark beaks and they don’t have white feathers on their head… They’re not mature,” said Karen Devens, an eagle photographer.
Devens loves coming here to observe the eagles. She saw M-15 lock talons with the other eagles multiple times.
“He will eventually have to leave to get food for himself and the babies. And that’s when they’re going to be at their most vulnerable,” Devens said.
Lott said when eagles have babies, one parent typically stays near the nest while the other hunts for food. She says it is not common for one of the parents to be gone this long.
The Dick Pritchett Southwest Florida Eagle Cam has been keeping track of the eagles in North Fort Myers for years. On Friday night, their website had this simple message: “Sleep safely Eagle Family and come home Mom.”

SWFL Eagles ~ AMAZING M15 DEFENDS & PROTECTS E's FROM INTRUDER! Chases Off Nest Tree 3 Times! 2.3.23
From Lady Hawk -- Feb 3, 2023
Harriet was last seen yesterday around 5:36pm flying off the attic & she has not been seen since. M15 has been amazing today bringing in rabbit for the E's and feeding them in the morning. However, just before noon, M15 was on the attic when he saw an intruder flying in. He immediately dropped down to the nest to defend and protect the E's. The intruder landed briefly on the veranda and M15 chased it off. E21 was aggressive at this time to E22. The intruder flew around and landed on the treetop branches where it stayed for almost 3 hours. M15 vocalized, alerted and kept the E's protected - he was amazing.
Finally M15 flies up and knocks the intruder off the branch and he gives chase - finally landing back on the attic as the intruder flew north. But the intruder came back & lands on the upper branches again while M15 remained on the nest. After several minutes, M15 flew up and chased the intruder off a second time. He lands on the upper perch and the intruder flies off but circles the nest tree. The intruder heads east and M returns to the nest to be with the E's.
The intruder returned a third time about an hour & 15 minutes later and lands in the upper branches. M15 flies up to the branch and the intruder flies off & heads north. M15 stays on the upper perch keeping watch. M15 will fly off two more times a half hour later in the same direction and then return to the attic. M15 will brood the E's tonight alone keeping them safe as we hope and wait for Harriet to return. Thank you for watching!

Request, regarding posts and comments pertaining to the current situation at the SWFL Nest of Harriet and M15.
Please keep posts and comments positive and factual. While open discussion and even speculation (to a point), is encouraged in this group. Repeated negativity, scare mongering and incorrect information, is not. And any such posts and/or comments will be removed.
We all hope for Harriets safe return. But are also well aware that the disappearance of an eagle, is not an isolated event and life goes on for the eagles. They live in the present and are led by their instincts and hormones.
If circumstances at this (or any) nest become too difficult/distressing to watch. Take a breath, take a break. We have all been there. But please try to keep posts and comments positive and factual. As we as observers, follow this ongoing situation and hope for the best possible outcome.
In addition: Please do not contact CROW. They are aware of the situation. But there is nothing they can do at this time. They will not and cannot intervene, unless Harriet is found injured. At which time she would be taken into their care. Or, if the eaglets were in danger of starving, due to M15 not being able to provide for them. In that case, FWC might possibly decide that removing them to CROW, would be in their best interest. HOWEVER. So far, no injured eagle/s have been reported. And M15 is an extremely experienced and skilled defender, protector, provider and parent. Well-equipped to continue raising his 2 eaglets, in Harriets absence. Although a persistent intruder in close proximity will impair his ability to leave the eaglets alone, while he fishes/hunts. The best way for us to help at this time, is to remain positive and keep in mind that nature will play out and we are merely observers. From the AEFL NEFL Nest page but applies to all the nests: "This is a wild eagle nest, and anything can happen. While we hope that all eaglets hatched in this nest will grow up healthy and successfully fledge each season, things like sibling rivalry, predators, natural disaster as well as territorial disputes can affect this eagle family and may be difficult to watch." If a situation at any nest becomes too difficult for you to watch. Take a break. We have all been there. But in this particular case, at this nest. The situation is being closely monitored by those in a position to help, should help be needed. Please refrain from contacting them and taking up their valuable time. They have the eaglet's best interest at heart and will most likely intervene should it become necessary. But not before.
