good morning Liz!

7:26 - 7:28 someone was walking under the tree and made noise.

i heard the platypus calling very near. and also a crow.
did we catch her?
no, only almost, but we didn't actually see the platypus voice come out of a crow's beak.
8:04:00 a crow flew by calling. 6 s later another crow flew calling in a normal crow's voice and landed on the top.
8:05:03 the platypus called very near (the crow).
8:06:36 again.
8:07:31 a bird (the crow-platypus) flew away from the top, invisibly.

we'll catch you yet, platypus!

13:14:05 a crash without much wind and no chainsaws. :slap:
13:17:47 again.

edit: Jānis sent some info:
Jānis R restarted the system, it was enough this time. We are running low on methanol, hope to change the barrel before the system runs dry.

14:01:about00 again a crash with no wind and no chainsaws.
14:08:08 more noise.
14:16:26 big crashing noise, again with no chainsaw or hard wind which one might think would be two plausible reasons for breaking trees. there is something else, but i don't have enough imagination to figure out what makes the trees break. ... or is the noise something completely different? :puzzled:

:hi: ame!
The first crash sounds to me as if a bigger bird landed on a rebouncing branch above/behind the nest and instantly took off again (sort of "touch down" or "tip-toe through the tulips").
I haven't heard cracking branches either, nor are there loads of snow on/in the tree - so maybe that was an avian visitor of some kind? (Or one of the known kind, passing by for a quick check. I have noticed that sometimes one of the two perches on the higher branches, out of camera sight.) Just a guess!

Susanne :hi:
when a big bird lands on the top or even touches the top the tree shakes and swings a lot. crows can't shake the tree and for ravens it's difficult though. their landing also makes a soft sound klops, eagles make a bigger sound and smaller birds smaller. even the crow-platypus in the morning made this sound. besides there weren't any sounds of wings.
all these birds make sounds with their wings even when they fly by the tree at a close distance. before all those crashes it was quite quiet. :puzzled:
i have been thinking about beavers as possible culprits for these sounds. they cut trees silently but do they work in the middle of winter? and in daytime? :puzzled:

16:43 Voldis flew in with nothing this time.
he lay down on the nest for a while. then he dug the nest a little. then he lay down again.
then he got up and looked around...

16:52 Voldis climbed on the left rim. then he jumped to the top branch and wiped his beak against the branch.
