He also takes care of the edge of the nest.
But not on the right edge.
Kaia does that.

16:44 Kaia gets up.
She preens.
Beautiful Kaia
She shakes her feathers.
The chick quacks. Several times.
Kaia gently touches an egg.
She rolls the eggs, carefully.

It's windy.
And apparently a bit too hot for Kaia.

17:21 Kaia gets up
She preens.
She aerates the nest floor.
Egg talk. Many times.
Maybe two chicks.
Kaia shakes her plumage.
17:23 She covers the eggs. I didn't see the pips (hole(s)) in the eggshell(s) this time.

17:57 Kaia stands up, is preening a little bit and loosens the nest floor.
She rolls the eggs and she fluffs up the pillows.
Kaia touches an egg. She wasn't careful about it.
Kaia covers the eggs again.

18:23 Kaia gets up.
Kaia loses her balance. It is windy.
puts a branch on another place.
She loosens the bottom of the nest, does ps
and covers the eggs again.
Chicks call. Are there two chicks we hear or does the one chick have an echo?

I don’t know, Swenja, but I think two chicks are babbling.
The chicks are making themselves heard!
18:24 much and quite loud quacking.

I hope at least the oldest chick has made some clear progress in hatching by now.
… The final, climax phase of hatching, in which the chick emerges from the shell, varies from a few minutes in small songbirds to a day or more. In the [domestic] chicken, the chick punctures the air cell about thirty hours before hatching, makes its first pip of the eggshell at twelve hours before hatching, and starts to rotate within the shell just fifty minutes before it emerges. In the guillemot, the air cell is punctured thirty-five hours before hatching; the first pip appears at twenty-two hours, and rotation starts about five hours before the chick emerges. …

Kaia stands up and moves the eggs just a little carefully.
Even as she covers the eggs again, the eggs try not to move.

20:08 I think I hear two chicks.
It's a very high-pitched peep and a low-pitched quack.
Kaia loosens the nest floor a little.
She sorts the nesting material and moves the eggs a little.
She covers the eggs again.

Kaia stands up and stretches.
She loosens the nest floor and does ps.
She loosens again a little.
Chicks speak softly.
Kaia covers the eggs again.
We don't see the interesting side of Kaia's eggs!

Kaia airs briefly. But she still doesn't show us what we actually want to see.
She moves the eggs a little.
Kaia covers the eggs again. Chick talk is quiet.
