Welcome little #3!

:chick: :chick: :chick:

Hope you'll recover quickly from the huge effort.

20:33 Half way out of the egg.
Image

20:41 Finally out of the egg!
The little hatchling looks wet and brownish/pinkish.
Image

20:55 Still very tired.
#3 is born 52 hours after #2, and thus much smaller than the first 2 chicks.
It's amazing how fast chicks grow.

Moss blocks the view again.

Image

06:00 Kaia gives food. But it seems to be only porridge.
It's undefinable fodder.

Image

Karl II comes by with a branch.

Honey, that's too dangerous for the little ones. Take it away.

07:05 Karl II brings nesting material again.
Kaia stands up and talks to him. Apparently Kaia does not want to fly away.

07:06 Karl II flies away.
Kaia airs the nest trough and then she covers them all again.

As hard as Kaia can separate from the chicks. She has no food for the little ones.
I hope Karl II found enough food today, although he brought nesting material.

08:22 Kaia is preening the chicks.
08:23 She examines #3 very closely.
She also pushes him to the ground with her beak? Kaia may be interested in the little one's reflexes.

:hi: to all!

It is good that the third storklet hatched and spent the whole night while KarlII was in the nest. If Kaia is suspicious regarding the chick now, who knows what would she think when it was dark pink.

10:21 Karl II gives breakfast.
There is fish. All chicks eat.
The first real meal for #3 and #3 was very hungry.

#1 with fish in the beak.

Good morning to all :hi:
Very cute our chick number 3, but I'm a little worried about Kaia's behavior.
She finds less food and might think they won't pull through a 3rd and 4th chick!?
If Karl now looks after and feeds the chicks more often,
and if the 3rd chick grows quickly, that would be an advantage.

Hello @Sabsy :hi:
unfortunately Karl II cannot be with the chicks longer and feed them well at the same time.
Karl II is already the main provider of food.
If #3 becomes a reason that #1 and #2 cannot develop well, Kaia will definitely make a decision.
I don't want to write about a fourth chick, because it is still an egg.

But, we are not there yet and the worst will be thought of last please.
All observers wish a good and successful season.

We have to trust that the parents will do the best for their chicks. Whatever that will be.

This is also what I am worried about. Kaia simply cannot find enough food, unlike Karl II, which might make her think there is less food than there actually is. She is simply looking at the wrong places, though.

She was very forceful with the chick. It was not a test for reflexes. In my opinion, she is seriously considering elimination.
