Edie leaves the nest with the fish, Jack follows her.
He returns soon...and enjoys the warm hairdryer to dry his feathers. :innocent:

Edie is on night watch again.
She came in the middle of the night and has been sitting at the nest ever since.

And the season officially begins. 😍 Rosie touched down this morning at 7:12 am, soon accompanied by Richmond. She was away on migration 180 days, almost six months.
To see what to expect in the upcoming season, visit our chronological FAQ at https://sfbayospreys.org/chronological/.

Rosie and Richmond spent time together after Rosie arrived this morning, as seen in this video.
At one point Richmond brought a fish to the Whirley crane (in typical courtship for Ospreys, as males are responsible for bringing the female fish during the nesting season), but when Rosie went to take it from him he flew off with it. This is pretty typical behavior for Richmond at the beginning of the season, it will take a few weeks for them to get reacquainted.
Weather is predicted to be rainy and windy through Tuesday.

We’re celebrating Rosie on this International Day of Women.

Rosie exemplifies the strength, tenderness, endurance, and savvy wisdom of a mature, proven female Osprey. Resting up now from migration, she and Richmond are entering their eighth season together and will spend a couple weeks renewing their bond before getting down to business.

Richmond, you mated with the best, hope you are planning to bring Rosie many, many fish this season!

Jack appears to have sustained an injury.
Change: Jack comes to the nest and his bloody foot is quickly seen.

Edie leaves the nest (for now), Jack covers the egg.

At Dunrovin Ranch, in Lolo Montana, Harriet has still not returned from migration. She is now 9 days later than she has ever been. Most of her return dates are at the end of March.

Swoop, her mate, returned on April 7th, right on time. He has been searching for days for Harriet and to me, he has a sad look on his face around his eyes. He has been working on the nest, very hard and has it ready for Harriet should she return.

I hope if she does not return, that he will take a mate with a new female that might show up. It shouldn't be long before the next group starts coming through. I just hope if he does run into a new female on that nest, he will accept her and they will stay at the Dunrovin Ranch nest. I will be lost, forever, if there are no more Ospreys, there. I am lost, already, at the loss of our beautiful Harriet.

Today at Dunrovin has been crazy. First Swoop never brought the new girl a whole fish and nothing until later in the day when he brought fish tails with a little extra fish on them.

Then an intruder started circling the nest and wound up landing. Another female!

Finally another partial fish was given to the new girl and at the end, Swoop brought a whole fish but there was no one there to get it.

The female has been named Fancy as per vote by a select set of chatters.

Meanwhile, this was a neat video to shoot because you can see the Ospreys flying in from over the mountains, way off in the distance and coming straight to the nest. Then the fish fight was very funny!
