Estonian White-tailed Sea Eagle Nest Camera 2024

Post by Susanne »

Apr 30

Hooray, the stream is back!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNnycD0JPUM

Much more quiet than Durbe where I just read Mega2's post in the YT-chat:
Merikotkas jūras ērgļu ligzda pieslēgta pēc ļoti ilga pārtraukuma, bet izskatās,ka tur neviens neligzdo? - GT: Merikotka's sea eagle nest is connected after a very long break, but it looks like no one is nesting there?

If you 'rewind' - but with your cursor only - you'll see some eagles in the past months - must be a compilation of eagle visits. Unfortunately, you cannot really rewind and make pics., but that's okay. It's impossible to identify the WTEs that way. But the nest has been rebuilt, too late for chicks, but let's see who has taken over the territory or is visiting or ... or .... :headroll:

Image

I managed to make a pic from Apr 27:

Image

Yes, there is a difference!

Edit: I have reviewed the recorded stream on May 01 : the eagles came back for the night at 21:47. It's Ella - that I know today.

May 01

Good morning Matsalu - tere hommikust Elmar and Ella!

05:12: Short softer calls. Elmar branches on the p-branch. He comes from the right branch.

Image

05:13: He has jumped into the nest and Ella joins him on the p-branch.

Image

Here's his ring - M1215 E340:

05:15: Ella jumps up to a branch in the middle and displays her tailmarks - thank you!

Image

05:32: She is back on the nest.

Image

05:35: Ella flies over the meadow to the woods, direction observation tree.
06:00: Elmar leaves the p-branch and flies in low-level hight over to the woods.
While he was perching on the p-branch, a male wild boar ran over the meadow. I'll try to catch that later - I need breakfast.

Thank you YT-chat  for the time stamp, quote: "Ina Jaunošāne 5.35-36 interesting moments" - really huge, wasn't he?

13:46 ff.: Eagle voices. First two (male and female), then one, and again two.
13:54: Elmar comes with a branch and is rearranging other branches.

Image

He is not panting, but obviously needs some areation under his wings.

Image

14:03: He perches on the p-branch, preening, and looking out for his mate, I think.
14:15:25: He flies downwards to the right.
Edit: Thank you YT-chat, for the correct time stamp! , quote:
"Ina Jaunošāne 14.14.18 voice nearby, 14.14.20 Elmar off to the right". The time is correct - but I didn't hear any voice?!

18:06 ff.: Eagle voices (two, male and female).
19:04: Cam is turned off - no, it's back again, ouf.
19:21 ff.: Eagle calls - two voices, male and female. (BTW: If anyone knows how to interpret these calls, please go for it! )
19:40: Elmar arrives on the nest with a big bunch of material.

Image

He works on sticks.

Image

19:46: Ella joins him - equally bringing a bunch of material.

Image

They are going to have a house-building party tonight, I can tell you by the number of pics. I have to make ... :D

19:56: Elmar flies away and returns at 19:58 with a branch.

Image

19:59: Ella flies away. Elmar follows.
20:05: Elmar is back with another twig.

Image

20:08: Elmar off.
20:21: Elmar back with more material.

Image

Ah, this is not so good - the back rim of the nest is not very stable and gives way. They will have to work on that.

20:25:50: And Elmar flies off to the left.

20:38:05: Elmar is back with another branch.

Image

And when he tries to work on it, and is close to the unstable rim, you can hear collapsing branches ... and the cam turns black.

Oh my goodness .... Maybe the connection was hit, because you could read "video source not supported". Ay caramba!

- And when I set aside my personal anger about the potentially broken something, what, do you think, are Elmar and Ella going to do? It looked very much like - and now I am going to say it: the preparation of a true breeding place. Late breeders, nothing so very much uncommon, the further north, the later, some are early, some are late, and the majority defines the median - all within the range of possibilities. I hope they have a spare nest somewhere else.

yes, s. my previous post:"And when he tries to work on it, and is close to the unstable rim, you can hear collapsing branches ... and the cam turns black.

Only the mike is working, but I won't do any reports based on listening. - It was a shock for me last night. Different from Durbe situation where the eagles had to rebuild the nest from the bottom to the top. At Matsalu, it was half collapsed and they built on top of this unstable base. They can't do it otherwise, but I don't know if it would have been an option for Kotkaklubi to remove the remnants and simply wait, until the eagles really rebuild it, and then successfully. I am so sad for Elmar and Ella because last night, they really invested a lot of energy.

Sorry Susanne. I didn't read that  , I just clicked on the link.

That would be very tragic. Let's hope for the best.
