good morning :hi:

it's been such a delight to watch this little owlet developing  now we get to see it most days as it has learnt how to fly and now has its own favoured spots on tree branches. i take it the parents are also teaching it how to hunt - one can still hear it begging for food sometimes. it's so good to see a successful season

23.48 a feeding on cam

the owlet was on the tree (left side) and then flew to the ground. a parent flew by (23.48) above, and then dropped down with prey

Image

then it flew off to the right

(sorry for poor picture quality!)

round about 10.06am, and lasting for a while, the crows squawked and I heard an owl (adult). there was another bird call - it seemed to be replying to the owl call - but it didn't sound like an owl call. i wonder what bird it was :puzzled: :help: :book:

edit - 'replying' might be a bit strong, the bird probably was just doing its own thing... :faint:

Eagle owl has been in the news. Some developments noted in the story. The English article is oddly different and mentions Ural owls. Not sure why. Better to translate from estonian.

Ending to this article is damming.

"Surviving Eagle owlets in whole of Estonia in 2021 = Two. 2022 All the owlets died. 2023 only one owlet made it."

This is horrendous survival %.

Also in the article they dance around the issue of declaring more protected habitats that could be perhaps logged for profit. Or that is how it seems.
