Post by ame »

welcome to the new topic!

the link to the camera:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOo4wwavdLc

Information from our webmaster:
"... this is the latest (link), but (it) may change because of Youtube, it starts again on new address all the time when streaming is interrupted (usually because of Youtube, not from camera)."
And more:
"Nest addresses change often, because Youtube stream needs to be restarted in a new address (in some reason, Youtube closes active connections sometimes).
Most recent Youtube links and streams You can find from Looduskalender.ee
page
(there are english, german and other languages translations, too). "

Triin has written an introduction to this nest camera here:
https://www.kotkas.ee/uudised/white-tai ... amera-2021

i'll copy-paste some sentences from this introduction here.
  • The white-tailed eagle nest camera is situated in Matsalu National Park.
  • The nest camera is installed on the oldest known white-tailed eagle breeding territory in Estonia. The first records on WTE nesting in Matsalu is already from 1870. And even then it was noted that "the nest had been inhabited for many years already".
  • White-tailed eagles built the nest visible on the webcam already in 1996, after their earlier nest-tree nearby dried – the previous nest was found in 1990. The current nest has been permanently and annually inhabited and a total of 29 eaglets have fledged there between 1996 and 2020 (over 25 years), i.e. it is a very productive nesting site. The area is very suitable for white-tailed eagles – Matsalu Bay and surrounding grasslands – and as a proof of this, another pair of eagles have started to nest very close to the pair visible in the nest camera. The distance between the two pairs is less than a kilometer.
  • The nesting adults of this year have no rings.
  • The nest camera was set up by Urmas Sellis (Eagle Club Estonia), Omar Neiland (Beta Grupp OÜ) and helpers from Estonian Environmental Board at the beginning of February. We use AXIS F41 camera with a custom made microphone from Omar. The main body of the camera is below the nest on the tree trunk, but the lens and sensor are at the nest level.
Image
  • The camera is powered by solar panels, and to save energy, the camera turns off when it gets dark and the batteries are weak. Live broadcast from the nest resumes at sunrise. We transmit the camera image via 4G mobile internet, so in case of intensive network use, there may be interruptions in the transmission.
  • The camera is streamed through the Eagle Club Estonia’s channel. We recommend following Kotkaklubi channel in case the broadcast needs to be restarted due to technical errors, which may change the direct link of the broadcast.
Summertime view on the nest.

Important events

  • March 7 Video transmission from the nest was started.
Soon it became evident that things were not alright for either of the chicks. They had fallen ill.

the nest looks very well prepared. i think that the eggs can be expected fairly soon.

(Abigyl, i've known a long time that i can handle only one nest at a time properly. if i try many nests at the same time it will be done poorly for all. that's called multipasking in Finnish, meaning 'multitasking in a sh*tty way'. sh*t = paska in Finnish)
drinking coffee all day and all night would not help.

Welcome to all WTE fans!

This is a very special nestingsite in Estonia. It's located in Matsalu National Park. If you cannot wait until the Looduskalender introduction then:
In Estonian: https://www.kotkas.ee/uudised/merikotka ... amera-2021
In English: https://www.kotkas.ee/uudised/white-tai ... amera-2021

i wonder who has crafted the camera "housing". this is downright ingenious, the best!

no plastic Christmas decoration spruce greeneries are needed for camouflaging the camera.
