06:21: a beautiful small bird with a longer tail preens itself in the wonderful morning sun light - for the very last time.
06:26:..I was still waiting for a better image to see more details of the bird. then: predator attack: sparrow hawk? off to the right with the prey.

Jynx torquilla ? Eurasian wryneck? I saw the plumage. It is banded like a sparrowhawk etc. and a long tail

it was not an attack. a wood pigeon came to the nest tree :D

It is not a kestrel! It's much too small for that.and the plumage wouldn't be right either.
An no sparrowhawk unless he is a dwarf version

Woow- I'm right! it is a Eurasian wryneck (Jynx torquilla ) a rare bird!

Wow dramatic :D

Heh! I was just about to post the same pictures as you Liz

Me thinks the long tailed bird is a female cuckoo, that's why the surrounding small birds are so very upset, and it's much bigger than them (jynx are rather small).
Yeah, and then comes a clumsy wood pigeon and scares the bird away.
Of course i could be wrong

oh my God ... :slap: .I was so shocked when this big bird crashed into the tree that I didn't check it over and over. it reminded me of what I once had seen at my feeding place in town ( a very green town), there was this pear tree in front of the house, and about 8 collared doves (streptopelia decaocto) were sitting there, completely at ease. then a sparrow hawk came dashing and literally plucked off one of the doves (like picking cherries...) the others were so shocked, that it took them a second before they flew off in every direction.

sigge, I think you are right. since we had a cuckoo here, I thought of it too. But this bird seemed so small to me? But from the perspective, bird to camera, it could be a cuckoo. Even an eagle looks much smaller on this branch. The flight image is also correct! Actually more than with the Eurasian wryneck.
What a pity
