Pesas käbi ja pesa all karu - Nest with a cone and a bear under the nest

photo 1 https://www.looduskalender.ee/n/sites/d ... 8/kabi.jpg
A cone put on an empty nest by a great spotted woodpecker last night

(An empty nest occurs.) correction: Something is going on in the empty nest. (thx Heloise)
In the evening, the woodpecker put a cone half-cleaned of seeds in the middle of the nest.
In the morning, a brown bear snarled under the nest.
Julge/brave has moved to a cargo ship on the migration route…

photo 2 https://www.looduskalender.ee/n/sites/d ... karu_1.jpg
At seven in the morning, a brown bear roared under the nest tree

Thank you! Everything is correct 8-)

An empty nest occurs. - I would say: Something is going on in the empty nest. (meaning: at or near the nest)

Urmas
Transmission from Julge did not happen, most probably no GSM network in that place.
Next time in morning.

A beautiful summer was seen (with joy and sorrow) in the beautiful nest of Jögeva. Thanks to everyone who made it possible, especially to Urmas and Solo !

Jan and Janika raised handsome chicks, however, only one of them managed to go on a migration trip. Therefore I think (like someone already wrote)... if the area under the nest was more wide, then the place for landing and flight back to the nest would be better. So, maybe there would be needed something like landing and take-off platform. But probably Urmas with his team have already thought about it and they have wondered what could be done to improve the situation in Jögeva forest.

Then nothing else this time but very much good luck to our brave Julge! I hope s/he survives away from the see and can continue his migratory journey to the south!

Good evening from Finland!
I have been following Julges life now only few weeks. Good luck to him/her! And good luck to Urmas and others too who work a lot. Now a bear under the nest and couple of days ago there was Urmas. OMG!

- no one noticed any visitor on the nest
- during the day we heard the sounds of various birds
- in the evening the forest overwhelmed us with very unusual (according to some even scary) - no one identified them

hi everyone,
I already found that it took a lot of courage for Julge (and all young black storks) to undertake such a journey south, alone, for the first time, without experienced adults to show the good way. But now, it s simply unbelievable...
i really hope that this will end well.
thank you for all the news,

Dear members.
Let´s stay on the right topics. On this topic about the nest and here http://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/view ... 087700f1e1
about migration.
No sense to copy posts from one topic to another. Everybody is able to navigate on topics itself

Have a nice day!

Just an observation: Neli, the fourth storklet in 2011, hatched on May, 27 and started her migration on August, 29(94 days). Julge, the eldest one in 2021, hatched on June, 14 and started his migration on August, 28(75 days old and 5 days after his first flight) The difference is that Tiit came in his nest on August, 30 to prepare it for the next season, but Jan didn't return after Julge left. So it is possible that next year Jan may choose another nest as Tooni did.
