NEWS 16th Februrary
Illegal fireworks (nearly 50) loud bangs and flashes were seen and heard two nights ago. They were 300-400 m away, so not aimed at the falcons. The police and security were notified. There have been other similar incidents locally so they are taking it seriously and doing all they can, although it is unlikely the culprits will be apprehended. All three falcons are safe and Diamond returned this morning to the box.

Predicted hatch date of our three eggs is from 1st October.
A juvenile female peregrine visited the box several times this morning, giving poor Xavier a fright. Chased off by Diamond (I think).

I agree with Cilla! As with other birds, males do not fight against females and females do not fight against males. I saw a hawk fly past the box a few times. That was probably Diamond.

7:18 Juvenile female came into the box. Xavier handled it well. Probably chased off by Diamond

Lift-off! First hatch at 0634 h this morning. So far so good, chick seems fine. Shortly afterwards Xavier brings prey and Diamond leaves with it, trusting Xavier with the tiny chick

Both doing well so far.

Second hatch went well and we now have two healthy chicks. Here is a video of the 2nd chick feeding after just one and a half hours!
