One juvenile seen chasing Diamond this morning. Here is a video https://youtu.be/UwQjCZA-M7s
It looks like there is only one surviving fledgeling. I definitely saw Barru since fledging, and probably Marri too. Hopefully one will come to the box soon (it tried on Saturday), so we can be sure. If both were still here, we would have seen them together by now.

NEWS 9th December 2023 Cilla Kinross
The juvenile landed on the roof this evening and stood tall by the lightning rod, so I was able to make some comparisons with Xavier and Diamond standing in the same position. I'm now confident that it is Marri. As I know that Barru fledged well and was seen (and video'd) a few days after fledging in the roost trees, we need to assume that he has since had a flying accident, which is very sad, but not an uncommon fate.
Our fledgeling is nothing if not an early riser. In this morning's video, they are chasing Xavier around just after dawn. https://youtu.be/0FNHaf2m5rs

Finally, our recalcitrant juvenile landed in the box this morning at 07:03:55. Clearly a female, tall and broad and with huge feet! No doubt we shall see more of Marri.

Nestlings (Yira, 'sharp' and Garrama, 'hunter') are now fifteen & sixteen days old and have just started exploring the nest. Their appetite is huge, but today after devouring a grebe, pigeon and starling, a second pigeon was finally too much for them. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/fsg0TEsksYU
One is clearly larger than the other, possibly more than justified by the one day's difference in age, so we could have a female and a male, but it's early days yet and I've been wrong before!

NEWS 24th October
These nestlings are almost three weeks old (19 and 20 days) and are starting to show their 'bandit' face. They are both eating well and have put on a lot of weight. They have already had six prey this morning.
Their down is thick, their tail showing as are feather tips on wings. They often sleep separately and Garrama (at least) has now started to walk upright. I think we can be fairly sure that he is a male and Yira a female as the difference in size is unlikely to be due to a mere one day's difference in age.

These nestlings (Yira, the larger female and Garrama, male*) are now three weeks old (22 and 23 days). They are both eating well and have put on a lot of weight. Sometimes the number of prey being delivered is just too much for them. Here is an example, with Diamond determined that they should eat, despite their huge crops.
https://youtu.be/Hry5UVSwir0
Their down is thick, their tail showing as are feather tips on wings. They often sleep separately, and both have now started to walk upright and explore all corners of the box. Don't worry about them going too close to the ledge, they have strong instincts not to fall out.

NEWS 30th October
The nestlings (Yira, the larger female and Garrama, male*) are now 25 and 26 days old and doing very well. Yira has decided she no longer needs to be fed and boldly snatched this morning's breakfast from Xavier. Diamond arrived to restore order. She will continue to feed the youngsters much longer than Xavier who often leaves them to it, particularly if they get too feisty.
Both are now walking upright and their juvenile plumage is starting to show through. They will be unrecognisable in a week. Don't worry about them going too close to the ledge, they have strong instincts not to fall out.
Average time from hatch to fledge at this site is 42 days. Males often go earlier than females. So fledge watch starts about 12th November.

NEWS 3rd November
The nestlings (Yira, the larger female and Garrama, male*) are now 29 and 30 days old and doing very well. Prey is coming in now less often, but the meals are larger and they are starting to self-feed. Here the pair are enjoying a pigeon while Diamond watches until she takes over.

They are now starting to moult and show their juvenile plumage and will be quite different looking in a week.
Average time from hatch to fledge at this site is 42 days. Males often go earlier than females. So fledge watch starts about 12th November.
