:hi: sova  They actually do not come every day - but sooner or later they may have to do some 'gardening' - cutting the twigs etc. ...

19:23:PS-> on the nest rim, then off to the p-branch (yes, this is why we call it 'p-branch', remember?)
19:26: She leaves, flying off to the right.

July 30

14:32/33: A WTE comes from the right and perches on the p-branch.

Image

14:38 f.: Short preening intermezzo . The WTE ->PS; then turns around and flies off.
Unfortunately I could not see the feet properly (view blocked by twigs); when the WTE arrived, I first thought: rings?, but I cannot be sure. The beak looked a bit scarred to me, so it might have been 'Smiley' - question mark!

16:04:45f.: I hear plumage ruffling! I don't see a thing; just an assumption: maybe the WTE from earlier did not fly away, but onto a branch at the right (out of sight, of course)?

Good morning to all!

This belongs to July 30, but I did not want you to miss it: :loveshower: cuteness alarm!
Thank you so much Inga (YT-chat) for the timestamp: July 30, 22:55 (already, there is one sitting on a branch at the left and calling) until 23:07 there are young OWLS in the tree and in the nest bowl.

23:01: Guess what: Of course they also detected the "thing in the magical corner" ...

good morning!

i recorded the visits of the owlets from the screen. it's not the best quality and it was becoming darker and darker...
the owlets called far first and after they left they called farther. begging for food.
they played and danced on the nest. they looked like little hobgoblins.
i suspect that they were eagle owls. i read in the bird guide that they are the only owlets who have an one-syllable- call.

i think that Inga was the first who noticed them (in YT chat) and Susanne wrote to me about them. big thanks to both! :2thumbsup:

i haven't had time to check xeno-canto yet... :help:
... here's an example of voices of 5 - 6 weeks old owlets.

Hi everyone :hi:

What wonderful night time visitors

I think that these two are Long-eared Owls juveniles (Asio otus)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-eared_owl

Begging calls on xeno-canto:

The way they move, hop and flutter is much more effervescent than at Eagle Owls, neither fit their calls to juvenile Eagle Owls.

thank you Bea! these calls match perfectly with the clear beeps that the hobgoblins made.
(i wasn't happy with the eagle-owlet's calls, they were too 'crackling'. ...but i was too busy/lazy to look for a better match.)

August 01

Good day to all!
No WTE (yet?), but a visitor paying a short visit, very swift.
16:13:04/05: The camera branch lightly sways. And again.
16:13:22: A smaller bird of prey perches on a thin branch in the middle; for me hard to tell what kind of bird this is. He then quickly moves to an upper branch and vanishes from sight.

Good morning Matsalu! Eagle day :D

10:24: I hear a faint eagle call.
10:29: A WTE ('Smiley'?) flies to the p-branch.

Image

...and then into the nest bowl. Yes, it's "our girl''!

10:45: Crane calls. Something catches her attention - is it just the cranes or someone else? She follows closely.

Image

There must be another eagle (?) in the area. She watches the sky very closely and turns her head serpent-like, looking up and around.

11:05 ff.:Sounds like a woodpecker, busy in the tree.

11:16f: She suddenly gets up, seeing soemeone, does a PS and flies off (more or less to the right).
