Hmm. She considers the meal from another angle, and then takes a nap. Maybe she will be hungry enough when she wakes?

19:49:05 -Or not. Back in the nest. A mere glance at the duck.

Then to the curved branch.

Image

Image

20:12:36 - Two hours and forty seven minutes at the eyrie, and off Margit leaves. Well, maybe it will be duck for breakfast.

Day 105, Week 15; 30 Days Postfledging.

Margit returns early to the eyrie for some duck breakfast.

Image

First, she assesses the situation from various angles. You never know when a duck might not really be dead, even when her feathers are plucked and strewn about. . .or an unseen predator could be lurking. ;>> Expect the unexpected! I am mostly kidding, of course.

Pounce.

Take note of the lump of anatid beneath her talons. It will help give us an idea of how much she has eaten once she has had her fill.

07:26:17 - The plucking commences.

Margit keeps her back to us as she tends to do. It's just that she likes to peer out the kitchen window whilst she eats, nothing personal.
We can see tearing and gobbling motions. Even pauses to snake down meat and bone when she needs to make more room.

Image

The lump of duck flattens beneath her feet.

Image

All done. Done for the whole day, kind of done. Full of that, at least.

07:54:52 - Margit cleans her beak. The word for bill-wiping is feaking, but she is almost nibbling her beak clean, heh.

Margit leaps to and from an eyrie branch we've not noticed her perch upon before. It is out of view of the lens.

Now, for some bird watching. You will need to follow her gaze to find the pinch of passerine. A little game of Where's Willow? As in the willow tit (Poecile montanus).

Image

This should help.

Image

Margit makes a gaping gesture at the bold little feathery floof.

Warble. Two-wing-up-stretch.

Image

After two hours and fifty one minutes, Margit leaves us, calling for family.

She is yet eager to connect with her parents.

Image

Image

09:45:51 - Margit has leapt up to the far branch.
09:47:12 - Again she leaves, calling, heading left. Three minutes at the eyrie.
10:19:40 - Thirty two minutes pass. The young eagless flashes past the spray of conifer branches from the left to the right.

10:19:49 - She arcs back around to make her approach.

Each feather pattern is unique. Even as she ages and replaces these twelve rectrices through all plumage stages. Over the years you could align each of the shed feathers produced from a single tail follicle on a single bird, and none would be exactly the same. It will be this way even when she is mature and each feather marbled.

Image

Wing-leg-tail-stretch. Margit is again preparing to leave.

Image

11:28:10 - She leaves left from the curved branch, calling for family. One hour and nine minutes at the eyrie.

11:28:19 - Final glimpse.

Image

I did not spend a lot of time seeking out vocals today.
17:59:25 - Here and at various other points - 19:02:14 - 19:26:39 - 20:03:42 - we can hear Margit and a parent overlapping in their vocalizations.
