June 19th

Good morning everyone, Emiliano :hi:

In the meantime we can only watch 'relaxed'. :innocent:
The gang of little hawklets disperses, only sometimes audibly, in trees. One can guess that they are still firmly in the terrain, not far outside. It is nice, but no longer taken for granted, to see them in the nest or nest tree.

Last night
H97 was the last visitor to the nest.
Image

Jumped from nest onto branches and finally into a hidden position in nest tree.
It is conceivable that one or more siblings also took their position there for the night. H97 often looked up into the branches.

Today she was also the first to be seen.
Image

Jumped from branch to branch and was visibly relaxed.

A little later her brother joins her. He has a cute mustache, like his father.
Image

Rummages a bit on the table, actually finds a leg of a food carcass and swallows it ... like a big one.
Image

I can't read the ring. I almost never succeed.
The male hawklets are difficult to distinguish spontaneously. However, they have their own characteristics, but I'll leave it at that.

He stays in the nest, lying down to rest under the branch on which his big little sister is sitting.
Image

I found it strange how he lay. First he nestled tightly with his chest, then he spread his wings. Can't it be too warm yet?
But everything is fine. He's asleep. :D

06:54 H21 enters the nest.
The enthusiasm in the stands was a bit premature - H21 came with empty claws.
Image

Image

However, she pulled another leg of the last prey animal from the edge of the nest and left her two startled hawklets again.
H97 devoted himself to the leftover food.

07:04 But now...
H21 brings a fledgling.
Image

Again, H97 is fast from the starting blocks and dominates the pole position. While she enjoys her VIP feeding, the brother sits on the side branch.
Image

He notices what is happening and reacts with interest to the factory premises. H21 is also listening...a third hawklet can be heard a short distance away. The hawklet on the side branch flies safely and confidently to the yellow mast, at least not far from it.

07:41 The terrain is moving again.
The Mini-H's in the Sound - Check. Yes, begging calls are on.
Two, possibly three hawklets do their rounds demandingly. One sits still on the upper branch.

'42 H21 brings food to the nest.
Image

Listens to the calls outside the nest and carries the food towards the yellow pole. This location seems to manifest itself as a feed delivery site over seasons.
Now the hawklet on the branch is also begging. Disagree with the food leaving the nest. :D
It changes its position in the tree with a crash. :slap: :rotf: Visible behind the LDF logo.

H21 returns to the nest with a green twig, causing screeching in the branches. Everywhere they call .... the Mini-H's.
H21 now seems a little rushed. Leaves the nest sideways.
Image

Return again with a Green Twig. She refreshes the nest, although it is hardly used anymore.

Now the hawklet shoots into the nest...H21 shoots out forward.
Well, by the toes, it's H97.
Hey Emiliano, what do you think? It seems H97 could take over her mother's V? :shake: :innocent:
Image

She doesn't seem to be leaving the tree yet, while her brothers are already fluttering through the grounds. Maybe it's completely normal that the heavier females fly later? Also in recent seasons, the female Hawklets have fledged later than their male siblings.

H97 dozes in the freshly planted nest while tender calls can be heard 'outside'.

Her brother flutters into the nest from the bottom floor ... complains briefly and then lies down with his little big sister. :innocent:

09:01 H21 brings more feed to the nest.
This time the brother is faster. Again begins the relentless beak-and-claw tug-of-war over food with its mother.
Image

While H97 retreats to the side branch, her brother is unwilling to give up the food to H21.
Image

Image

H21 prevails, but the hawklet pulls the food away from her at lightning speed, even during feeding.
It could bite itself. I don't know why H21 insists on feeding. :puzzled:

In the course of feeding, H21 is repeatedly distracted by external perceptions. She's been very responsive to seagulls lately.

Feeding is over, H21 has meanwhile left the nest.
H97 balances a little bit down the side branch with 'Gjak'.
Two minutes later flutter onto the upper branch and then higher and calls.

It sounds cute... :2thumbsup:
A nice mix of voices between H44 and H21.

10:00 And again H21 comes into the nest with food.
The hawklet shows greed again.
Image

I'm not sure if it's about hunger or possessions... H21 grabbed the food and began to feed, but despite a few bites, there was no sign of real hunger.
The hawklet stands over the food with its hissing coat while H21 eats leftovers from the nest.
Image

The hawklet turns away, jumps onto the side branch.
Image

'Outside' the begging cries of the siblings can be heard.

The dinner guests change as in the drive in.

While one brother sits on the side branch, the next flutters into the nest, shrieking and cloaking.
H21 begins to feed (...like on an assembly line :slap: ), the other one flies off-road.
Image

The hawklet stands on the food and plucks its morsels alone, H21 jumps onto the side branch after a short check.
Here comes the next Hawklet...seems to be sitting on camera. The image shakes and squeaks. :D

Yes.
10:22:57 The hawklet changes its position from the camera to the upper branch.
Image

Jump into the nest - it's H97.
She starts to eat.
Image

H21 is still sitting on the side branch

Time out for the Hawklets.
Instead, playful training ... Flying to the prey, hitting it with the claws and holding the prey is practiced.
Image

What I haven't seen so far this season is kicking and kneading on the lining.
The Hawklets still need a lot of lessons.

The brother flies back into the terrain and H97 flutters excitedly and shouting onto the upper branch.
She's not ready to follow him yet... :innocent:

13:44 H44 puts food in the nest...better - he puts it down.
Image

A third hawklet is heard.
H97 meanwhile starts to pluck the prey. One brother on the branch, the other reaches the nest in '47. Sneaking around H97...the food seems unreachable.
Image

Until H21 comes, but quickly leaves the nest again.
Now the brother has the food under him and is plucking. The interest fades quickly.

Soon H97 is alone again in the nest full of feathers. Her siblings are already out and about again...

She jumps onto the side branch...feels the wind beneath her wings and her urge to fly is palpable.
Image
H97 will dare soon. :innocent:

18:38 More food for the rascals and little by little there is a coming and going.
All four Mini-H's take their bite - served or picked themselves.

A nice sign to see all four! :2thumbsup:

It's interesting, however, that everyone flaps up screaming as if they were almost starving - the food was in the nest for a long time. :slap:

Hello Polly and alls.
what do you think? It seems H97 could take over her mother's V?
Yes, it seems that there is a "V" in the tail of one of them but more closed than the one of H21.

It also seems that the Female has already flown on her own. She was the youngest and it took longer than her siblings not only because she was the last but because she takes longer to develop.
It would have been interesting to see if, being born before one of the brothers, the little male could have surpassed the female in plumage development before reaching the end, which is when the difference in development between males and females is possibly made.

I think that this year they have flown somewhat earlier than the previous one, over 40 days and even earlier.

Greetings and good night.

Emiliano, what do you think when you write about the youngest, what ring number does he have?
I also make attempts without writing it here.
Yesterday I think I caught 98 and 99. I was inclined to think that H97...the girl is the youngest? I'll correct it later if necessary, but I think H97 has the most piebald plumage. Good broad eyebrows but the brightest of all. The boys look calmer in plumage.

H97, yes ... does she fly or not ... :dunno:

To this day I think no.
I think she stays in the tree very permanently. H97 can jump well, she has power. But she lacks the lightness. The girl is 'on point' so not far. I dont know.
It's just a feeling... let's give her time. :innocent:

I note at 16:50 that H97 only flaps short distances. With video ... unfortunately I seem to have deleted the video.
I'm a bit restless...my dog has repeatedly slipped herniated discs (dachshund paralysis). I'm not 100% on point.
