Today the children's room was deserted.

Only 07:17 shows H21 with food.

A hawklet can be heard in the tree...hunger squeaks. :D

'22 A male hawklet, not H97. VIP feeding for the boy.

A resting hawklet during the day too...boy.
Otherwise begging calls from time to time...
H98 ...99 :puzzled:

19:10 A little unrest in the grove of H's.
We hear calls in the tree...a hawk leaving the tree. Mini or maxi - I don't know.
(Flies out of the tree 19:10:26)

Excited shouts from both parents... something they perceived as a threat.
They also flew around the tree.

I couldn't find anything so far, but I'm wondering - is there a population of Skuas in Riga?

Greetings and good night. :innocent:

Hello, Polly and everyone :2thumbsup:

I know that when I express myself in my language, the translator does not fully respect it and there may be parts that have not been understood.

Birth order :

1º Male (M1) I haven't controlled the rings.
2º Male (M2)

These two were born on the same day with about four hours difference and although they have been very equal there has always been a slight advance of (M1) in the plumage.

3º Male (M3)

He was born the next day (about 14 hours later than M2) and in the plumage there has been more difference.

4º Female (F1) H97

He was born about 20 hours after (M3) or something else.
This is the one I call youngest.

They have been together all the time and in many positions and he is noticeably bigger in size than the others but he doesn't always seem that way depending on the position. (Sometimes we have seen something in front of H44 compared to H21 and it seemed bigger but when taking a small step forward and being at the same height the difference is quite a lot).

Other details such as eyebrows and plumage color can also give us an idea of it, but the general size and the size of the legs is the most definitive.

As for the flight I have not been able to follow the last few days and I am not sure that she has flown yet, only that she has not been in the nest for a long time and that she appeared from one branch to another jumping and flapping her wings.

By the way, H44 does run away when the chickens come for food on (20-6-22) at (8:26).

Thank you for your reports as you know that I can not follow the camera and the time I have left I have to be ready for the next day.

You know very well why (I hope your dog can recover but surely he is already at an age when the signs of being older begin to appear.

Greetings and see you tomorrow.

June 25th

Hello Polly and everyone.

14:48 - 17:23

H21 arrives at the nest with a green twig and climbs the branch where it stays for a long time, when it comes out the screaming chicks must be waiting for it.

19:55 - 21:04

In the vicinity of the nest there is a chick that then enters and plucks by eating some of the loose prey in the nest. When he finishes he climbs onto the branch and another of the brothers who was attached to the trunk on a branch relieves him eating too. He leaves and the first one remains in the branch until 9:04 p.m. when he leaves with one of his brothers.

22:04 - 08

H21 appears with a prey in the nest, takes it out of the chickens that must eat outside of it and returns with a piece for her.

Goodnight

One of the minis flutters below the nest. H21 leaves the nest H97 enters it. And looks frustrated at the empty plate.

Outside still the begging choir of the other bundles of joy. :D
Image

Image

The male hawklet leaves the tree into the factory premises...ki - ki - ki can be heard.
H97 calls from the branch with begging calls.

04:42 We see movement and calls on the yellow pole.
H97 is on the way to her family - and the food. And it flies incredibly beautifully! :innocent:

'43:00 Below the nest another hawklet (?) leaves its position in the same direction.

feeding

'14 H44 brings more fodder and soft sounds.

Other hawklets followed their father as he left the nest.
What a rant...

I left the recorder running...just to be able to watch the Mini-H's together. :innocent:

The fourth did not enter the nest. Could only be heard.

Then H97, the girl, enters the nest and she also gnaws on the food.

Then they switch - brother eats and H97 rests.

The green branch sometimes gets in his way.

I'm incredibly fond of their soft, almost melodic sounds. Hawklets can also chirp. :innocent:

There was no major activity as the day progressed.

Before 08:56 H44 has already been to the nest with food.

Only a hawklet could be heard out in the field. I wondered if the others were just calm because they were happy or if they were traveling with H21 to learn to hunt?

'57 H44 wears the lining 'down' again.

June 26th

Yesterday at midnight nice music could be heard...but there were no listeners in the nest.
The H's may have preferred the tikets from the branches.
Image

The night stayed light - the nest remained empty.

04:11 First complaint calls from a Mini-H.
'45 two voices - one sound. I think a Hawklet and H21 with long tones.

05:21 H21 puts a twig in the nest. Two hawklets can be heard...they are approaching.
Image

Only one goes into the nest.
H21 leaves the nest in a hurry.
Image

The hawklet calls, frustratedly tugging at twigs and anything that grabs its beak. It preys on twigs, feathers...remnants of ancient carcasses - nothing relevant to its hunger. But his claw grip looks good.
Image

After a few tries I was successful - it's H98.
Another hawklet can be heard.

It flutters onto the side branch, loosens its feathers there briefly to jump back into the nest.
Exuberant discovery of the little hunting skills again.

Then it leaves the down - suddenly. H44 could be heard. :whistling:

08:07/08 A hawklet and H44 can be heard.
Movement on the yellow mast.

'09 A hawklet flutters into the nest. Strong beak, strong toes - H97.

She leaves the nest screaming. A parent may have been sighted.
Two Hawklets can now be heard.

In the afternoon to evening an empty nest, only a few calls and thunder can be heard.

19:40 H21 can be heard. Does she ask for food?
A hawklet can also be heard.

21:56 H21 brings a branch of a maple into the nest, looks around and jumps onto the side branch.
Image

Shortly thereafter, a hawklet flutters down to the lower floor, calling.
H21 leaves the tree.
A second hawklet enters the nest while the other is still below the nest. H98 as seen later.
The beak slightly open... the other hawklet also spreads its wings. It searches the nest, picking up feathers and twigs...flapping onto the side branch.

Now H97 jumps into the nest while H98 sits on the side branch.
She, too, turns everything around in the nest. Then lie down.

22:13 H98 leaves the side branch screeching towards the yellow mast.
'14 H97 follows

Rear view H97

It looks as if both of them will fly from there to the left into the grove shortly afterwards. After the food... :whistling:

Good morning everyone, Emiliano :hi:

The sightings are getting fewer.
Usually only two of the Hawklets can be heard for sure, and a third voice can rarely be assumed.
In my opinion, only H97 (F) and H98 (M) can be seen.

Can't tell what condition the other two Hawklets are in. I hope all four fantastic Mini-H's will have a good and safe future. :innocent:

And to my delight, of course, H21 and H44... :innocent:
Emiliano was lucky enough to capture a moment between H21 and H44 recently. H44 dancing in the nest courting H21. The couple has apparently already entered another phase.
Thank you Emiliano!

06:04 Male hawklet enters nest, calls and lies down.

(white feather on the left wing. Conceivable that it is H98 again)

'08/09 Calls from one of the siblings can be heard. The hawklet in the nest responds by standing up and calling. Lays down again before it hurries to leave the nest.
