16:27 The brother slips back into the nest.
Guess he was just a jump away. Another sibling can be heard in the terrain. The boy jumps onto the side branch, listens...the unfavorable weather is taking a toll on the young Goshawks.
He begins to call out into the area, is he looking for contact? (because the food is arranged on the plate).

17:18 A ki ki ki one of his siblings...H97? Because she comes into the nest two minutes later.
Image

'34 Brother defecates elegantly overboard and leaves the side branch. H97 eats the food carcass, then flutters into the branches and away in '56.

In the evening, H44 returns to the nest for a check.
19:46 Slips in, looks around and then jumps onto the side branch. One of his teenagers can be heard.

H44 has trouble keeping up ...leaves the side branch into the terrain.

July 14th
Emiliano:

9:03 - 9:43
Almost continuous calls and sounds.
Twice H44 appears entering with prey and leaving later (9:38:58 to 9:40:26) and (9:41:40 to 9:43:01). The chickens are closer now.
The tail feathers appear lighter as if they were already new.
Image
12:04 - 13:38
Period of considerable sound activity of the chickens.
One of the chicks flies back and forth to the right and below the nest. (13:35:44)
Air is rising.
H97 (?)
Image
16:45 - 17:42 Sounds and chicken on the branch

According to my sighting, this youth is not an H either. His movements are fast and the transmission is not sharp. Emiliano, the ring is reversed.
Can you confirm this or am I foggy from my meds?
I'll let goshawks ring differently depending on the bank. I have to search to find the information. It was written somewhere.

20:07:08 H44 enters the nest with a prey, one of the chicks appears and stays plucking and eating it (20:07:43) while H44 leaves right away.
The chicken climbs the branch after eating and leaves the tree (20:48:46).
At the end of the day there is also strong wind (23:05).
Also nice to see that the juveniles are now also using smaller side branches to sit and climb.
The dwarves are growing up. :innocent:

And please... look at the rings again. Here, on July 15th, it was the same Juvenile as yesterday on July 16th. The ring black for identification is on the right! And the juvenile is darker in coloring!

H44 feeds strange neighbors children?
Or is this a young female from last year? Has H21 been sold?

More calls follow until (6:56:19) when H44 enters with a prey, restless and looking a lot until a chicken appears in the nest (6:57:56) to leave at that moment as he does lately. The chicken follows him in flight.

17:36 Again a strange Juvenile
He looks around, jumps onto side branch - back onto upper branch and rests. When he leaves the tree on the factory premises, these whistles can be heard. We know it from H21 in high excitement.

S17?
I don't know...

Polly
, I haven't followed the rings. I can't tell them apart on my computer.

What I notice strange is that the chicken that appears has the white of the tail somewhat unfolded and it seems to me that the mini H's did not have it.
Was he defending H21 the day there was courtship from other possible males?

Today so far in the day until 10:00 there have only been distant sounds since 4:55:45 when the first sound appeared.

19:55 Two juveniles (?). We hear whistles again
'56 a juvenile flies into the tree. The same on the side branch?

Clearly again no H - dwarf.
It flaps onto the upper branch and out of sight, but the calls continue.

20:00:05 They angrily pursue each other. Excited shouts and youthful ki ki ki.

Then there is peace.

Emiliano :2thumbsup:
I have also given up concrete recognition. The rings are hard to read. Only somehow something was different. This juvenile - is it one?, is very dominant at the nest.

I know juveniles have some puppy protection. They will be tolerated for a while. (also in foreign territories)
But fed?

I thought I couldn't see properly. :slap: :faint:

The main cry of threat or rejection is the ki-ki-ki in a high pitch and very often.

Young people enjoy protection from adults and it would not be strange for someone to try to get food from good H44.

There are nearby sounds behind the tree, in another innkeeper (10:08 - 10:34)

From 10:34 I can serve.
Possible H97. At least the black ring can be seen on the left. The calls at the beginning sound female to me?

I didn't expect this tension at the end of the season. And I will be very happy to see H21 again.

Edit: No, it must be an adult. No teardrop drawing on the chest.

20:28 Two excited juveniles can be heard and seagulls - more than two. In any case, the background noise is restless.
'31 One of the H - dwarfs climbs into the nest, calls.
Image

Another voice can be heard farther away. The juvenile rushes out of the nest.
It will continue to be called ... until the sky opens its floodgates.

21:40 There seems to be some discrepancy inside the compound.
We hear excited shouts - I dare hope we hear H21. I would give her the vote.

Hello together, Emiliano :hi:

No visits yet today, not in the nest.
08:15 call drawn out with kikiki. Sounded mature and feminine
'28 Juvenile begging calls, then excited squeaks - parent in sight? The calls flutter away - after the food?
'32 ...and return. With amplification - two youthful voices now.

11:07 call like 08:15 without kikiki. Out of nowhere.
'08 similar, started out like a rooster's kikeriki...

Has H21 been monitoring the site since morning? It would be nice if she was.

Hello, Polly and everyone. :2thumbsup:

It does sound like H21 to me.

11:06:25 Little bird in the nest.

Sound Activity:

11:42 - 12:14
13:56 - 14:20
19:36 - 21:51

Pass one in front of the nest from right to left quickly(20:07:47).

At the last minute (21:48:03) one is flying in the vicinity of the nest and later several sounding at the same time already in the distance.

Goodnight

Hello Polly and everyone.

4:27:01 First sounds of the morning.

The sounds have followed but not very frequent and continuous.

8:51:41 A goshawk approaches the nest and perches behind the trunk out of sight.

... July 19

They have followed the sounds discontinuously until (12:00).
Between (13:00 and 15:00) more often.

In the afternoon there have been gusts of strong wind and there were also sounds from (20:52 to 21:33) some of them near the nest.

Hello, Polly and everyone. :hi:

During the morning the sounds have been distributed throughout the hours.

The chickens are still in the area and what we hear far away may not be that far, maybe 400 or 500 meters.

Several times they have been near the nest: (9:26) and (11:03).

From (20:16 to 20:25) one of them has also been close by and entered the nest and spent a little while in it: (20:25:34 to 20:27:41) to exit through the chamber and turn to the factory side.

Goodnight

July 21st

Hello together :hi:

....Emiliano, we can go on vacation. :rotf:
Our services are hardly needed anymore.

Little can be heard and none of our graces pose for the camera.
Sometimes when a juvenile is heard it's so sudden, close and demonstrative that we can think it's been there the whole time.

This morning I made a recording. I'm still not sure if it was Goshawk. It was very wide - and sounded angry.

Well, now the time to search for an area begins.
There will be guests here while our dwarves venture into foreign lands.

I'll keep at it, I'm sure you too.
Let's see who we can see and hear here.

Ah, to Scotland... I saw the camera. There, similar to Tartu, great close-up is possible. Yes. Still, while I sometimes miss the sharp close-up vision here, the wide angle here is very interesting.

I say goodbye for now.
Will only report sightings or other significant events. No more daily accurate news.

All my thanks to the Latvian team for the opportunity to be a part of life here in this patch of Riga...the territory of our beloved incomparable H's.

Thank you @Emiliano for your tireless work and simply being there. I would have given up without you. It was fun. Thanks for a great season!!!! :2thumbsup:

All we can do now is wish our dwarves a safe life. And to hope that the H21 and H44 team will regain their strength and that we can continue to accompany them. :innocent:

Hello Polly

It is true that there are few sightings and it takes quite an effort to find one throughout the day.

As soon as one is careless, they will surely appear!!!

I will continue, but banding time slots at dawn and in the afternoon. It remains to be seen when there is no activity of the chickens and then if the older H's go into false heat.
The period until (December / January) interests me but it is difficult to follow.

Relax and rest that will surely come in handy to recover.

I am also sure that I would not be here if it were not for you, for now we will continue "with our shadows" and hope that the H's can reappear while there is a camera.

I am also clear that although I really like goshawks, I wouldn't follow them the same way if they weren't the H's.

Greetings and good summer also for you and yours. :2thumbsup:
