What nonsense
The headline:

"Karl, who has travelled to Ukraine, may be carrying a solar-powered radio transmitter worth thousands of euros"

I can do that too!!

Replace: 'traveled' with 'fled'
Voilà, Karl would be a wanted criminal who stole a transmitter.

...but our Karl is unfortunately no longer alive...

Thanks, Hellem for the reminder/hint

The authors probably read this forum and the youtube chat and took their "information" from there. Let them publish horoscopes, they do it better.

Greetings!
Start getting rid of resentment. The readers do not know nor are interested in when and where and how somebody was supposedly 'insulted in Russian' (surely not in one of the forum-threads, the language we use here is English.) Resentment is a sticky and nasty thing which is likely to poison any communication with others and may hurt, if you do not get rid of it. And IMHO there is absolutely no need for defending one's YT-channel. Nobody ever questioned this, Liz.
Peace! Thank you.

I have spent all afternoon trying to source articles on drones, bird tracking transmitters and the military  But good information not easy to find. We will not take notice of unreliable articles or fake news. We will keep hoping and believing that Karl II is ok.

i want this chain of off-topic discussion to end right now. please sort it out with pm's to each other.
thank you for your co-operation.

AnneMB, give mercy to yourself and have a break. we are all very worried about Karl, but none of us can do anything to help him or change the situation in any way.
we can only hope that he will be ok. it's a vast country there. let's hope that Karl will avoid trouble.
i have tried to console myself by thinking that the terrain that Karl is likely to fly to is unreachable for heavy war machines.

No, we probably can't, but it still is an interesting and important topic (concerning the safety of tracked birds).
Thank you for the effort, AnneMB!
However, I also think that it's a vast area and it's entirely possible for a bird to avoid the hostilities.

That's easy, because Karl is wandering around in the streams and ditches of the eternal hunting grounds.

For the past two years, Karl II has stayed around 40-60 days ( I wasn't counting on the exact day) at his Black Sea feeding ground when flying south.
So he doesn't leave that place anytime soon if he's there and only the transmitter is being disturbed.
However, it can then also take longer before the transmitter sends signals again.
I don't want to immediately think that something could have happened. We have to wait.

Hello @Biker :hi:
You are of course right about Karl.

Karl II should beware of flying near bridges, 'cause all the bridges are being ruined there.

There is a new report on the front page, 9.9.2022
https://www.looduskalender.ee/n/

"As of yesterday evening, the young black stork from the Waba Karula nest, equipped with an escort, has arrived in Western Ukraine, about 150 km east of the city of Lviv. The length of his migration path is 1500 km.

Boonus, a young bird brought to Karula's nest as a foster son, has reached southern Belarus about 50 km north of the Ukrainian border after a journey of 900 km. At the moment, Russian-Belarusian military exercises are taking place in the border area until the end of the week."

(GT, not corrected by me)

So we see, until all of our BS reach the latitude south of Ukraine, there are still some opportunities to worry. And even after that they have to cross/fly over dangerous areas (e.g. Lebanon, sea, desert....) on their way. Best we can is to keep our fingers crossed for them all, trust them and their instincts and try to remain calm and patient until we get further information/data from reliable sources.

September 12

good morning!

thank you Swenja for your observation of the great tit!
i made a clip of the visit.

i have been wondering about the same thing: there are so few visitors here.
actually i haven't checked the daytime visitors... i have heard owls calling every now and then in the nights, but not every night. a pygmy owl calls a few times almost every morning about after half past 5.
seeing an owl flying by like some time ago would be a great strike of luck. they fly quite without sound and if they don't land on the nest the probability of spotting them is almost zero.
