Can it have happened when Karl II got caught in the dead branch? (May 10, 17:04)
When Karl II came to the nest and the excitement began. Karl II had the wing on a dead branch and could it have gotten stuck in there when Kaia started pushing him?

Big wings, long legs, long beak......... a stork

I would guess it might have been the stranger BS from before ?
Karl II was hissing and beak clattering

Afterwards Karl II took care of the eggs and covered them again.
Currently it's 2 a.m. and all is quiet.

Hello @balistar :hi:

Yes, it could actually have been a black stork.
Karl II's reaction at night to conspecifics would then be different than during the day. At night, all birds are just grey.

The camera is very sensitive and therefore never really sharp with a moving image.
But the zoom is great.

Swenja, hi :hi:
Judging by Karl's behavior, it was an owl. This is more likely than a stork flying by at night.
and It was a silent flight by the bird!

Hello Swenja :hi:

actually it was still dusk, so, not unusual for black storks passing by, maybe on the way home.
To me the beak presented itself as a long beak such as i have never seen on any owl, goshawk or the like.
But i don't want to insist and prefer to go back to non-active, pure silent watching mode.

Thank you, Swenja and Anne, for your constant reports.
I wish everyone an interesting observation and thank you, also in advance, for the constructive discussions and contributions from the experts.

balistar, you are wrong
That was a bird of prey! BTW: goshawk is not hunting at night!
The behavior and voice of Karl show it clearly!

a fast flying bird- bird is much smaller than a BS!

Hello @balistar :hi:
More observers see more. I always look forward to reading something from you. The reference to the long legs is good and worth noting.

Hello @Liz01 :hi:
I also initially thought of a bird of prey and Karl II's behavior would certainly be proof. However, reactions in this nest are such a thing.
Kaia's reaction to Karl II when she threw him out of the nest is such a behavior that we can't infer the process either.

I don't know which bird flew by the nest last night. It's generally far too restless at the nest this season. I worry if the season will be successful.
