The intruder pushes her head and body under Jan's neck

Jan is squeezed against the tree.
The intruder has grabbed his right leg. Do you see where Jan's leg is?

Did Jan finally launch a counterattack? Did he bite the intruder?
Image

I don't know what exactly Jan has done, but the intruder suddenly lets go of his leg...

and flees to the right…

Hello everyone

That was a bizarre *attack*. It seemed to me that this strange BS wanted to slip under Jan....strange. And suddenly as he came he flew off again (could it be Janika I?)
Thanks Anne for the pictures

:hi: to all!

The brownish-headed intruder must be Janika from last year. It's a pity she is still alone and homeless.

Hello sova :hi:

Yes, that was a strange attack.
Jan hardly defended himself at first. He was just trying not to get thrown out of the nest.

But at 10:28:06 there seems to be a "break point". It looks like Jan is biting the intruder, possibly in the right wing. S/he lets go of Jan's leg and flees.
Image

Jan is clearly on the offensive here.

If the intruder was indeed a female (Janika I ?), this event puts (in my opinion) a question mark on the theory that females only fight females, and males only fight males.
The intruder was offensive and attacked Jan, bit his leg and tried to throw him out of the nest.
Jan initially seemed only defensive, but that changed at a certain moment.
(Possibly he was fed up with the intruder's attempt to bite off his leg. )

Anne, thanks again for all your work here :2thumbsup:

In the case of black storks, I often had to correct "facts"!
Kaia has clearly shown that in an emergency it doesn't matter to her whether male or female :whistling:
In this case here I think it was a female? But honestly, I don't have any proof.

Too bad, too bad, they are all without rings!

Yes, I agree with you, Liz.

Kaia has indeed already clearly shown that she also attacks males when she feels it is necessary. Even her own male. (And so did Kati, years ago.)
I also have a feeling that the intruder here may be a female. But no proof either.
