This is a great start , even failure in something is a necessary experience.
The lives of the black stork saved are certainly worth fighting for.
The Chick Bonus is a confirmation that everything is possible. Now he is getting used to the Karl II nest and shows us that he is learning fast.
Urmas, you are on the right track! Thank you so much for deciding to do this. I am very proud of you.
Thank you to everyone who is with you, to all your assistants, I wish you to always have such a friend and mentor by your side.

Although there is great joy because of the rescue of two JJ chicks (I'm happy, of course, too) and I find the action very courageous, even though there were many risks.
So, all in all... GREAT!
Still, I have to remind you of the wonderful BS Jaan.
It was such a harmonious *relationship*...it was a joy to watch the two BS (Jaan and Jaanka).
It hurts my soul that the wonderful stork is no longer there.
Jan you were great...

You are right, Sova.
Jan was a fantastic male, and he and Janika made an exceptionally harmonious couple.
It is a tragedy what happened there.
Jan and 4 of his chicks died.
I also feel very sorry for Janika. It must have been very tough for her too.
Thanks to the big efforts of many, 2 of the 6 chicks now get a fair chance to survive. I am very happy that it seems to work out well. Nobody could predict what would happen... it was a big risk, but it worked out. I am very grateful for that.

yes it hurts when you think of Jan, I always wonder what Janika might do now.
But at least 2 of the chicks have been saved by full commitment and grow and thrive.

Must be something wrong with this ill-fated nest from the very beginning. It looked so nice and cosy, but somehow storks abandoned it for many years. Last year Jan and Janika appeared there and lost three their of the four storklets.
The first one suffered this season was Janika from last year, who arrived in her nest too late and was brutally chased off. After that new misfortunes happened.

So, it is certain that this year there was a new female? I thought it was not possible to tell without a ring.
The intruder female could have been a stranger who was looking to nest. Females who have a nest arrive earlier than those who do not. Usually, that is.

There are two signs that it would be Janika-21. The "intruder" female had brownish feathers on her head as Janika from last year, besides she arrived at the same time as last year. New Janika was completely black.

I was told by multiple people that the coloration of the feathers is not a certain way of identification, since feathers change and the brownish color can appear on any bird of any age. I think the reason for this was the sun. How much the bird was exposed to it in its wintering location, etc. Besides, I did expect the female to have matured a bit and get more black-ish feathers this year.
According to general observations, females who already have a nest will arrive much earlier. It would make no sense for the female to come this late again and give the chance of stranger females to take her nest. Kaia arrived very late in 2020, does this indicate that the female that arrived much earlier in 2021 was not Kaia because she did not arrive at the same time as the previous year?
Well, I do not say this could not be a new female. It could be, indeed. I am merely saying that it is not 100% certainty and careful description must be observed. Both options are merely assumptions and opinions. I am simply trying to avoid possible misidentification and misinformation.
"I think/In my opinion it is a new female." ... is the better term to use.
