Re: Goshawk nest in Riga 2023
Crows have been roaming the grove in waves for the last hour.
08:32 They shake the snow off the branches above the nest.

09:50 short sounds from both H's
'52 H21 solo
10:20/21 Yes, of course, the inspectors must not be missing. Even check the camera lens.
10:47 the Goshawk chattered
'51 H21 again in a strong solo

The snow is almost done...
The prospects for the next few days:
***
14:11 The snow is gone - Team H too.

14:39 Jay flutters through the grove calling
Next up is H21 flapping...
15:10 on the side branch, calls.
It's really tiring and frustrating ...

There's a bit of movement...
16:34 H21 to hear and which other birds are there?
I've asked for help on these lutes several times - no one answers.
@tringa, @vainamoinen?
(In 33:06 H21 is most likely to be seen - from the left corner to the right into the grove, again 34:05 back to the tree. Everything flying low.)
16:45 H21 and now undoubtedly crows
'49 H21 sounds melodic ... urgent. She almost shrieks.
'50 She crashes into the lower floor, can also be seen. (laterally)
Then H21 jumps higher but remains invisible.

17:08 She's still there, calling clear and loud.
A blackbird too.
'11 Now from a different position or she calls in a different direction
A mob of crows is approaching. Does he accompany H44?

17:16 H21 calls
'19 ...and the crow mob has arrived.
'20 H21 can be heard again
17:45 The crows join in the nest tree.
18:09 Distinct landing sounds and a call from H21
Good night to all!

Hi Polly-family and everyone.
6:00:29-41 , 6:03:20 , 6:24:38-46 and those noted by Polly at 6:40 and 6:44. All this from 5:22 to 7:32
Sometimes I can seem heavy with listening at dawn but it is a very sure presence tool at a more or less predictable hour. At other times in the morning and during the day they are also open, but they are more variable because they have already started their foraging activity.
I think that we are getting close to the time of egg laying and that indeed the chosen place may be the one of the last few years.
Greetings to all.
Today they have finally been very early in the vicinity of the nest sleeping. But it's still a good sign today: H21 was in the nesting tree very early.

Thank you @tringa! You took a lot of question marks off my forehead.
March 31st
Hello Emiliano, @all!
The day picks up speed for today.
07:56/57 Let's start with a blackbird (female?) standing relaxed at the outer edge of the nest.
09:39 +/- A woodpecker drums
09:49 - 56 Absolutely in brackets and with great doubt - heated sounds. However, further away or at least difficult to hear. There may have been seagulls at a great distance.

10:41 H21 can now undoubtedly be heard very close
***
11:20 - 22 Their calls are again at a different, greater distance. H21 sounds angry? Definitely upset, excited.
27:17 A high-pitched squeak
(we heard occasional encounters between two Goshawks)
H21 keeps calling and now H44 can also be heard.
Mating 11:28
'29 that squeak again
Something is wrong.
I've listened to it several times and can't tell if it's animal or a noise from the factory premises.
They wouldn't mate if a strange Goshawk was present?
11:35 - 37 H21 calls and chatters.
Sounds a bit muted but still like H21. Probably an unfavorable position in the grove.
I'm pressed for time. I have to go to work right away.
Have a nice day everyone!

Hello Polly - family and all.
Today very little and brief at dawn has been heard. (7:22:48)
12:57:43 Gjak
13:01:24 H44 enters the nest (how beautiful it is!) and jumps onto the missing branch.
13:18:50 , 13:21:17 , 13:27:00 Farther sounds that seem to be answered by H44 at 13:27:15
13:32 - 34 More sounds ending in Mating.
13:45 - 47 More sound and , Mating ?
We have to keep waiting and we get into April.

Emiliano, thank you very much!
He hardly pushes branches.
At 13:03 we see him flying back into the forest and hear mating sounds. A little longer but still not sure if it was a completed mating.
For me they are too short (even if they sound intense) to be efficient or complete.
In general, I have the feeling that the pairings are getting shorter. Not less but shorter. I think a normal occurrence.
H44 still looks small but more compact. He has nice drawings that make him look very smart.13:01:24 H44 enters the nest (how beautiful it is!) and jumps onto the missing branch.

Yes, another yes-no-maybe pairing.13:45 - 47 More sound and , Mating ?

15:01 chatter and mating
A little more small talk in the next few minutes.
19:19 The wren hops through the nest.
(@tringa )
Now he's easy to spot.
See you, good night!

April 1st
Good morning!
First calls
06:36 Goshawk
06:51 - 53 Buzzard
***
08:01:57 A cat or a dog roams through the grove.
09:11 mating sounds (longer mating)
'24 H21 calls, then again very energetically
'32 shots?

10:59 - 11:01 Both of the couple can be heard in the 'conversation'. Seems they're sitting in close proximity.
'04 'Gjak'
'05 The conversation resumes and a mating takes place.
This pairing is acoustically cloaked by resentful crows.
An H sees threat or distress or just annoyed and we see it like an arrow chasing crows. Shortly afterwards the other way around - the crow is behind the goshawk.
The crows don't leave, on the contrary - seagulls join in loudly.
'15, '22, '27 H21 is calling

11:35 I think now H44 called first.
Both are still here.
'37 H21
'38 both chirp
I actually have to go shopping...

11:47 - 51 They yell at each other.
Both sound urgent.
The pair obviously have a lot to say to each other today.
I'll keep listening to that later.

12:04 Quiet alarm chirping from blackbird and wren.
12:27 Short contact check
'Still there?' , 'Yes here.' ...and the crows: 'We too!'.
12:41, '48 calls in the tree
A crack here, a crack somewhere else ... guess, the champagne for the egg party can stay in the fridge for today.
