10:47 pm A firework display in the neighborhood...the owlet doesn't let himself be disturbed.

Eat, snooze ... it will probably go on like this for quite a while.

23:45 currently eating again.

It will be interesting whether the tawny owl leaves the nest first or the H team has to wake it up.

See you!

Too bad it's not easy to see what he captured. Rat, little rabbit ... ?
22:08 is getting more energetic now.

Good morning everyone! :hi:

vainamoinen Big thanks for your input! :innocent:
OK, no rabbit.

All went well. The tawny owl left the area in time. Namely 02:03. Pulled the carcass into the middle of the nest, was still busy with it but left the nest without its tough food.

The Morning is coming and we get a clear view of the feed carcass. Though carcass is an exaggerated version, as we can now see.

No sign of the H's yet.

06:58 But the good piece finds interested parties.
A crow gets the antiquarian midnight meal out of the nest in two attempts.

It looks flat. Longer fur...carrion from a road accident maybe?

Good morning Polly - Vaninamoines and all.

It seems to have been a tawny owl (Strix aluco), that's the first thing I thought when I saw the black eyes and the round head. Two years ago, about 3 km from home, I heard the angry goshawk and shortly after, sounds of tawny owls in broad daylight in winter. It is to be imagined that the goshawk in his camps met him and they had unfriendly words.
Although it is from forests, it can also be in cities or nearby. Goshawks and martens are also from forests and appear or are constantly. They are from where there is food.

If the snow persists, the laying may be delayed until it is removed.

Greetings

The bustle of the little great tits is beguiling today!
They swarm and chirp through the nest all morning. :2thumbsup:

Unlike the H's... 8-)

11:16 Both can be heard: H44 moving away and H21 flying into a nearby tree and calling.

'17, '19, '20 H21 calls energetically, urgently but melodically for H44.

'21 H44 is here and the couple has a lot to talk about. H44 enters the nest, his gestures and vocalizations seem to calm H21...the communication becomes quieter and softer. :innocent:

H44 jumps onto an upper branch.

We hear flapping, squeaking and chirping... :innocent:

H21 is now entering the nest and we see H44 in the background flying into the park.

H21 does not stay in the nest for long either, but positions itself back on a side branch.
'25 H21 can still be heard with 'Gjak' position in the tree.

'32 too

The couple's communication is really worth hearing:

H21 puts pressure on.
By that I mean - she calls for 13:05, '08, '11, '15, '20, '21, '25, '28, '31, '32, '44, '46, '52

'54 H21 is now putting a twig in the nest.

She does not stay long but does as before.
She flutters to the nearby side branch and keep calling.
'55
'59 this time H44, sitting not far away, replies.

14:01
14:02 H21 flies low from the nest tree. H44 appears there too.
Shortly after, one can be heard from further away.

14:17 H21 can still be heard close up (in the tree?).

16:15 calls

16:41 Mating in the camouflage of the grove
(@Ligzdas Gariņž  )
The first pairing heard of the day.

17:45 heard H21 again

then rest over the day .... :innocent:

Have a cozy evening!

March 13th

Good evening! :hi:

If we only look at the camera sporadically, we might think that nothing is going on.
In fact, the day is filled with sounds from the couple! :2thumbsup:

Between 10:00 and 12:00 there are many calls from H21, the pair communicating together...and we see them fluttering between the trees.
10:45 mating

At 11:33 we hear H21 calling in the park and see H44 flying into the nest tree and responding.

And finally a sign of the woodpecker again ... its drumming was nice to hear. :innocent:

11:43 H44 brings a branch into the nest - in the express - delivery service.

In, announce the delivery, drop off - out.

Hello Polly and everyone.

On Sunday H21 was strong as always but H44 also showed a lot of strength.
Last season from the connection of the camera to the laying date not so many days passed and we were the same as this year with many doubts and without continuity. There were few early calls but in the last four days they did. We are going the same way.

This couple at the moment is like that and does not have that overwhelming regularity that Ruudi and Alla mark in Tartu.

Greetings and good night.

Correct, these two pairs cannot be compared in terms of (nest) preparation for the breeding season.
Nevertheless, their broods work well.
If we get a glimpse of another successful season in both nests, it's worth watching the behavior of the Hawklets.
Sova (If you can still read along - many greetings to you! :2thumbsup: ) was a bit worried about the aggression between Alla and Ruudi's Hawklets. In fact these have been much more energetic than the H21 & H44 Hawklets. I never found the Mini-H's conspicuous...almost too well-behaved.

Although both nests were well fed and there was never any reason for rivalry or food envy.
Yes, I'm very excited about that.

Well, for all of this, it would be beneficial if Team H wasn't conspicuous by its absence.

10:35 Actually so far and today - nothing.
And milder air blew through Riga overnight and blew the snow away from the nest. :innocent:

12:05/06 Both call from different positions (closer and farther)
Further calls also later from a great distance ...
13:09 a little closer

I wonder why are they so reserved today?

The stream isn't going too well today.

So sometimes nagging helps....

13:46 crows and H21 heard in the terrain
13:50 H21 calls ...
'53 calls more urgently...
'54 H44 flutters into the nest tree and softly answers while H21 continues to call energetically

13:59 Series quieter 'Gjak' ...
14:00 mating

The couple is finally waking up! :faint:

H21 still squeaks a little.
